OK, So I'm sitting in the terminal at Manchester NH Airport, heading to New Orleans for a convention of Pharmacists.I'm looking forward to the Cajun food but miss my 10 year old already.
OM45GE - Posted - 12/04/2011: 04:12:33
Why didn't I think of that.I just found out that I'm missing part of my power cord. I hope I can borrow one to keep the laptop charged.
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/04/2011: 15:23:53
I left my cord to my GPS in DP's truck when I returned it to him. I was all in a panic until he emailed to say he'd found it. He brought it by work today for me. Yay.

I have a hand herd gps that I take in the boat sometimes duck hunting, the slews and backwater can get confusing in the dark
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/05/2011: 07:54:17
Mine is a TomTom. It likes street addresses and gets kind of freaked out if you're in cornfield.
dat - Posted - 12/05/2011: 08:07:12
mine is a garmin with the waterways and lights programmed in, it has the roads but I don't really use that part
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/05/2011: 09:31:33
I use mine a lot to go to some of the obscure concert venues I go to. And the other day when I needed to get DP's car back to him. I've been to his house and his friend's house but I couldn't find them on my own if I needed to. So I asked him where he was going to be and "can I get the address" and then I was able to find him.
dat - Posted - 12/05/2011: 10:11:58
I gave my brother directions to my deer lease a while back, it started with dirt roads and went to small roads from there, he found it without a cell phone or gps. most people now days can't follow directions well if there aren't road signs
DeanT - Posted - 12/05/2011: 10:22:37
I have a cell phone, so I can call someone if get lost... being in the same city for over 30 years helps...
dat - Posted - 12/05/2011: 10:27:17
a friend of mine says that he won't drive any farther than he can walk back to his house in a day, just in case his truck breaks down
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/05/2011: 12:33:07
I've had plenty of people give me directions over the years and gotten totally lost trying to follow them.
Of course, I also once got really lost following Mapquest directions to Reagan National. Seriously, the directions led me to a back alley somewhere in Alexandria. I was very late picking up my friend from the airport that day.
The TomTom has its limitations. It doesn't really figure in traffic lights when it's giving you the ETA, and there have been times when it's taken me up to an hour or more longer to get to where I'm going following it. Also if I decide to try to take an alternate route, sometimes it gets caught in this thing where it really wants me to turn around. Once I was going to Wolftrap and realized I didn't have money for the toll road. I tried to go another way but it kept directing me to get on the toll road. Even after I actually got to Wolftrap and was crossing the toll road it still tried to tell me to get on the toll road. And I was at my destination! I have no idea what it where it would have taken me if I'd gotten on the toll road at that point.

my sister is a realtor and lives around Dallas, she uses a gps to find some of the houses she shows, I didn't know before, but she said that a lot of times in a big town like that the realtor showing the house might not ever see the house until they show it to somebody, they read the specs and try to match to what somebody is looking for. most of the houses she sells there she never sees until the buyer goes to look at it.
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/05/2011: 13:57:21
Yeah, when I was going to look at houses it was pretty obvious my realtor had never seen any of them before we went to look. Mostly she knew what my price range was and would just pull anything in that range. Then after looking at some houses she got a better idea of what I liked (and me too!) and started narrowing the search some. But sometimes we went to a house and it was immediately obvious it wasn't right and we'd just skip it and go to the next.

no snow, it's colder than a witches teat here though, it got down to about 25 last night. that doesn't happen often around here, and it's usually around late January or February when it finally does. I've already burned over a half of a cord of wood.
how 'bout up your way?
ncmedic - Posted - 12/07/2011: 06:14:29
No snow but its supposed to start raining 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches this evening and turn cold as the dickens
this weekend, temps in the 20's this weekend. I was hoping you folks got some rain or snow
or something. I have seen you post that things are very dry in your area. I have seen the drought maps
out there, seems like you guys will have to prime your mouth to spit. I hope y'all get some rain soon.
Tommy
DeanT - Posted - 12/07/2011: 07:28:21
Please send some snow to Kansas. Its cold enough, 17 degrees last night
dat - Posted - 12/07/2011: 07:33:02
We did get a little rain finally and they lifted the burn ban, sure hope it's a wet winter
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/07/2011: 11:19:38
We've got a flood watch and a winter weather advisory tonight. I think that means it's going to be a wet night.

Now we need one of them charts between Catholics and Protestants... and we'll see if the mods ever come round this thread :)
dat - Posted - 12/07/2011: 14:38:27
thing about that chart is that it isn't argumentative, it just translates

I'm so frustrated. I told someone at work that I could do something for him. It should have been a half hour task, maybe an hour at the most.
The stupid software I need to do it isn't working for me. It's been three days and I still can't do it and I think he's getting a little frustrated.

When I have problems like that the IT department tells me it's a loose nut on the keyboard.
I just got back from New Orleans. It was colder down there this morning than it was up here in New England. That didn't last long and we may get some snow tonight.
dat - Posted - 12/08/2011: 05:47:40
IF HE IS, YA'LL MAY HAVE TO SPEND TIME AFTER WORK TO GET THINGS GOING
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/08/2011: 07:31:48
Cute guy is an IT guy, but he works for a specific department. I can't get him to help me with my computer.
I got the other IT dude down the hall to help me. He finally got it working this morning. Took me five minutes to pull the information I needed and another half hour to get it in the right format. Now I just need to figure out what size mailing labels they need.
DeanT - Posted - 12/08/2011: 10:32:05
I think it's time to dump cute guy. He should have helped you anyways.

everybody I know is married or I'ld put in a good word for you with a friend. thing about being married is everybody you know is married
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/08/2011: 12:53:04
It's not like I asked him and he turned me down! I just know that his job duties are in different areas and that he needs to focus on his own work.
Plus different IT people do different things. There are the programer people and the applications people and the support people and the applied people. I needed support. I think he does applications.
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/08/2011: 12:54:00
But I have decided that he and I are mathematically incompatible. So I'm rethinking my obsession.
OM45GE - Posted - 12/08/2011: 13:05:00
I had a girlfriend once who did nice applications of massage oil. I found it very supportive!
