It's a reality in Hawaii right now, scary video!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/08/2018:  12:10:34

It sure is. I'm obviously not a seismologist, but I'd be worried the whole thing could blow up. The area where the lava is flowing is miles from the main crated. Who knows what's going on underneath all that?

DeanT - Posted - 05/08/2018:  17:47:56

They say Yellowstone could blow anytime too... yikes!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/09/2018:  03:13:08

I know, and that’s an enormous volcano and obviously still active.

DeanT - Posted - 05/09/2018:  09:48:15

And way too close to Kansas...

OM45GE - Posted - 05/09/2018:  13:47:13

I know. Some of the maps of the ash fall zones are horrifying.

Looks like we will be stir fry

OM45GE - Posted - 05/10/2018:  03:31:23

The good news is that the experts don’t think anything is going to happen soon in Yellowstone. Hawaii on the other hand...

DeanT - Posted - 05/10/2018:  06:36:02

we'll just have to stick with our tornadoes and earthquakes for now

OM45GE - Posted - 05/10/2018:  12:35:41

and we with our blizzards and hurricanes

DeanT - Posted - 05/10/2018:  14:33:31

blizzard is one thing we'll never see in Kansas... heck, I forgot what snow looks like

OM45GE - Posted - 05/11/2018:  03:41:26

They actually kill quite a number of people every year. Between car crashes and heart attacks, a lot die.

DeanT - Posted - 05/11/2018:  10:11:24

Growing up in Michigan, I remember them well. Folks would get lost and freeze to death. It was common to tie a rope from the barn to the house

OM45GE - Posted - 05/11/2018:  12:24:40

Right now it's about 65 degrees and sunny. It's a great spring day in New England.

DeanT - Posted - 05/11/2018:  13:28:14

90 in Kansas with blast furnace winds

OM45GE - Posted - 05/12/2018:  04:54:14

That doesn’t sound like nice running weather, nor much else for that matter.

We’re supposed to get rain today. Nice sunrise with the clouds moving in. This is part of the middle and high school complex across the street from us. It’s looking back towards my street.

DeanT - Posted - 05/12/2018:  06:13:34

send that rain to Kansas! We need it. I'm used to running in the heat... just drink a lot!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/12/2018:  11:53:58

I never minded the heat when I was running, but 90 with strong winds?

DeanT - Posted - 05/12/2018:  13:14:09

it's just life here... it was 92 with winds gusting to 40 when I rode my bike today

OM45GE - Posted - 05/12/2018:  13:28:37

Phew

DeanT - Posted - 05/13/2018:  14:11:09

only 89 today... cold spell

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/13/2018:  15:17:15

"only" 92 in the Phoenix area today. It's been above 100 all week.

DeanT - Posted - 05/13/2018:  16:05:34

yeah but it's a dry heat :)

OM45GE - Posted - 05/13/2018:  16:28:14

A dry heat that will suck the air out of your lungs. :-)

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/13/2018:  16:49:35

especially when the wind kicks up all that desert sand

DeanT - Posted - 05/14/2018:  10:15:22

I don't know why Kansas is so humid... but it is...

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2018:  12:41:50

It must be how close you are to the ocean.

DeanT - Posted - 05/14/2018:  13:52:23

Yeah...like as far away as a state can get... in both directions!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2018:  07:40:46

I’m about 20 miles from the ocean.

Yesterday there was a small tornado about 50 miles north of here and they’re saying the conditions are favorable for more later today

DeanT - Posted - 05/15/2018:  10:44:06

we are in tornado season as well, nothing close, but plenty in Kansas so far this year

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2018:  12:43:55

They said this was the second earliest tornado on record in New Hampshire. It doesn't usually get hot enough to spawn the big storms.

DeanT - Posted - 05/16/2018:  00:54:41

we got a late start this year, but now it's in full swing

OM45GE - Posted - 05/16/2018:  03:25:20

The volcano in Hawaii is getting scary.

DeanT - Posted - 05/16/2018:  10:11:38

They better be careful, when Mt St Helens blew... it blew the entire side of the mountain off... all those folks taking video and doing news reports could go poof instantly

OM45GE - Posted - 05/16/2018:  13:38:16

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I see them standing there and remember that people were killed almost 20 miles from the crater.

DeanT - Posted - 05/16/2018:  13:52:09

will make for some interesting video

OM45GE - Posted - 05/17/2018:  04:00:16

One of the photographers killed at Mount Saint Helens apparently shielded his film when he realized what was happening and the photos have been very useful to geologists studying the explosion.

DeanT - Posted - 05/17/2018:  07:18:04

there was a photo on Facebook where people were golfing, not giving a care that it was erupting in the background

OM45GE - Posted - 05/17/2018:  08:35:37

I’d toss the golf clubs and start looking for a way out.

DeanT - Posted - 05/17/2018:  17:05:27

looks like she blew!!!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/18/2018:  03:23:41

It said on the news that they were passing out face masks for the ash. I wonder how they would do against pyroclastic flow.

DeanT - Posted - 05/18/2018:  04:22:30

you would get one last clean breath

OM45GE - Posted - 05/18/2018:  05:07:57

Yep

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/22/2018:  06:44:47

I don’t get all these storm and disastrous events chasers.....I guess it’s the same impulse as slowing down when passing a wreck and rubbernecking

Edited by - chuckv97 on 05/22/2018 06:45:13

DeanT - Posted - 05/22/2018:  11:13:02

the storm chasers around here are ridiculous!!!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/23/2018:  02:49:04

Tempting fate

DeanT - Posted - 05/23/2018:  10:08:39

some have paid the ultimate price

OM45GE - Posted - 05/23/2018:  14:00:14

I sort of understand the legitimate researchers but the thrill seekers baffle me.

DeanT - Posted - 05/23/2018:  14:39:17

sort of like base jumpers, and wing suit flyers...

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/23/2018:  14:52:28

I remember a kid in my hometown stood under a tree in a lightning storm - a huge lightning bolt hit the tree, blew his shoes right off and killed him.
