I doubt he could get away with that now, with all the computerized radio dispatch, body and car cams, GPS, etc.

DeanT - Posted - 12/17/2018:  09:48:11

We have to be strong, to actually go through with being just fosters!!! She is going to make a perfect dog for someone!

OM45GE - Posted - 12/18/2018:  03:34:08

I’m not sure I could do it. I wouldn’t want to let go

DeanT - Posted - 12/18/2018:  06:32:30

we don't want to either, but we always try to stay in touch, and have made good friends through doing this

OM45GE - Posted - 12/18/2018:  09:50:22

That’s a good side to it.

DeanT - Posted - 12/20/2018:  10:34:24

That was fast (I knew it would be) she goes to her new family on Saturday

OM45GE - Posted - 12/20/2018:  12:47:47

Wow. That is fast (like the dogs)

DeanT - Posted - 12/21/2018:  14:22:50

Just found out we are dropping Jersey off, and picking up a new foster, on Saturday

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/21/2018:  15:56:53

you guys are busy with musical dogs

OM45GE - Posted - 12/22/2018:  03:42:50

I wonder where they’re still racing dogs. They passed The Greyhound Protection Act and shut down the greyhound tracks around here.

DeanT - Posted - 12/24/2018:  16:58:02

Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, and West Virginia.

Here's our new girl. She was a foster yesterday. She's ours now, we adopted her. Her name is Popcorn.

Another cutie

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/07/2019:  09:09:20

Nice dog, Dean. There’s a guy walks his Greyhound here at the park, but not sure where he got it. He claims it won over 50 races. Her name’s “Pokey”.

Doesn't look like a her :) Next time you seem him, ask what his racing name was... then I can look up his record!

Here's me and the crew on any given morning...

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/07/2019:  09:49:50

Duh,,, how I missed that I don’t know.. lol

OM45GE - Posted - 01/07/2019:  11:40:18

Maybe it's a transsexual dog.

DeanT - Posted - 01/07/2019:  14:05:10

Through some research, if Pokey is part of his racing name, there is only one red-brindle listed as TNJ Pokey, born in 2011, he ran 46 races with 6 wins and 6 shows. He was an A class racer, so although he didn't win over 50 races... he was still really really good. He had 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He raced in Tucson.

Isn’t the internet amazing?

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/31/2019:  07:26:32

Wow, just read your post now, Dean. That could be him,, he lives with Bill (who’s from Boston originally - a town known for hyperbole !) , a neighbo(u)r of my galpal near Phoenix. So seeing Pokey’s from Tucson makes sense.

"a town known for hyperbole" ?!?!?

I resemble that remark! (Curly Howard)

...nyuk, nyuk, nyuk !

DeanT - Posted - 01/31/2019:  14:00:49

here's my boy and a friends dog, chasing a jeep at 40 mph. Greyhounds have a double suspension gate... they are airborne twice every stride... this photo shows both.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/31/2019:  15:17:32

Wow,, I’ve seen Pokey run, but not that fast

DeanT - Posted - 01/31/2019:  16:25:02

he used to!!! They average 40mph on the track... and hit 45 mph on the straitaways

OM45GE - Posted - 02/01/2019:  03:38:14

They look great doing it too

dat - Posted - 02/08/2019:  10:08:54

That is fast, I didn't realize they moved that quick

DeanT - Posted - 02/08/2019:  11:02:06

8th fastest land animal, and 3rd fastest accelerating, only the Cheetah and Prong horn are faster

I’ve seen some pronghorns crossing the highway in front of me at times,, when they hear the truck engine coming they really crank it up into high gear.
“The pronghorn is the fastest land mammal in the Western Hemisphere, being built for maximum predator evasion through running. The top speed is very hard to measure accurately and varies between individuals; it can run 35 mph for 4 mi (56 km/h for 6 km), 42 mph for 1 mi (67 km/h for 1.6 km), and 55 mph for 0.5 mi (88.5 km/h for 0.8 km).[16][20] It is often cited as the second-fastest land animal, second only to the cheetah.[21] It can, however, sustain high speeds longer than cheetahs.[6] University of Idaho zoologist John Byers has suggested the pronghorn evolved its running ability to escape from extinct predators such as the American cheetah, since its speed greatly exceeds that of extant North American predators.” - Wikipedia

I always thought race horses were fast... they are kind of slow compared to pronghorns, cheetahs and greyhounds. Interesting how long the pronghorn can maintain a high speed! Greyhounds are only good for a minute or so, and they are spent
