like after finding the Canadian Goose poo on the golf course... a perk of winter in Kansas
OM45GE - Posted - 11/27/2012: 09:31:46
Toby thinks goose poo is a tasty treat the nice Canada Geese left just for him. He's thrilled that it doubles as something to roll in.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/27/2012: 09:43:23
They make a mess out of the playing fields at the high school where I walk Toby.
Alaina - Posted - 11/27/2012: 11:02:19
Charley is the absolutely adorable basset who is featured in my profile picture.
DeanT - Posted - 11/27/2012: 11:31:00
Bassetts are my second favorite breed (I had three of them 25 years ago).
Alaina - Posted - 11/27/2012: 11:39:49
Did you have them all at once? I couldn't imagine having three of Charley, I love him to death but he's a trip haha
DeanT - Posted - 11/27/2012: 11:51:15
Yep... I've always liked dogs in threes. Just like I have three greyhounds right now :)
Alaina - Posted - 11/27/2012: 11:54:32
Sweet! I used to have a mastiff who was the sweetest thing on earth
dat - Posted - 11/27/2012: 12:19:33
we had blueticks we coon hunted with, labs we bird hunted with and one basset we rabbit hunted with, I liked the labs and the basset the best
Alaina - Posted - 11/27/2012: 12:23:41
We have rabbits that live in the bushes behind our house and Charley couldn't care less about them. But if a duck or mud hen runs by him, it's game on haha
dat - Posted - 11/27/2012: 13:29:15
we have a little boston terrior now that the kids like, she'll give a squirrel fits, but lets the rabbits do what ever they want
Alaina - Posted - 11/27/2012: 13:36:37
Haha our mastiff used to do that. He'd corner them in a tree and then just lay at the bottom waiting for them to come down
dat - Posted - 11/27/2012: 13:50:12
one of my labs would do that with cats, or any cat that came through the yard, he would get
Alaina - Posted - 11/27/2012: 13:55:36
I had a dog who thought he was a mama cat. He would carry the babies around in his mouth and move them when she wasn't around. He finally stopped when she swatted him across the nose and drew blood. I was pretty proud of her
Alaina - Posted - 11/27/2012: 15:06:00
She sure attacked me a few times when I thought her babies were old enough to hold and cuddle but she didn't agree
DeanT - Posted - 11/27/2012: 18:07:24
rabbits, cats, squirrels, and possums don't make it more than a step and a half in our back yard.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/28/2012: 04:28:16
Toby has come tantalizingly close a few times but can't quite close the deal. I think your greyhounds have 10 mph on him at least.
DeanT - Posted - 11/28/2012: 06:59:38
They say a greyhound can be up to 45 mph within three strides. One thing I never realized... greyhounds are faster than race horses
dat - Posted - 11/28/2012: 07:09:39
that is quick, but labs can reach the food bowl and bring it to you to fill it even before you realize it's empty
Alaina - Posted - 11/28/2012: 08:01:09
Charley used to be able to do that. Until I started adding yogurt to it. Now he licks the bowl clean and just sits there looking at me like "where did it all go???"
dat - Posted - 11/28/2012: 10:07:03
I haven't ever fed a dog yogurt, usually they just get the leftovers
Alaina - Posted - 11/28/2012: 10:11:40
The vet said to give it to him as a probiotic since he has stomach issues. I give him two spoonfuls of plain all natural yogurt each time I feed him and he's doing much better. He loves it, especially when I run out of plain and have to substitute strawberry until I get a chance to go to the store!
DeanT - Posted - 11/28/2012: 10:50:11
Our dorks like to be picky... and sometimes turn their nose up at dry food. But all it takes is a kick starter for them to empty their bowls. A spoon full of yogurt does the trick.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/28/2012: 11:09:14
Toby Wan hasn't met the food he didn't like. They don't always like him though.
dat - Posted - 11/28/2012: 13:45:19
I always figured they'll eat when they get hungry, if they're picky eaters, just wait, they'll empty the bowl when they get hungry
Alaina - Posted - 11/28/2012: 13:59:57
Charley just won't eat. He's stubborn enough that if he doesn't want something, he would rather go hungry than eat it.
Alaina - Posted - 11/28/2012: 14:25:22
I haven't let it go four days, but he did go three days without eating
DeanT - Posted - 11/28/2012: 19:18:53
we've tried that... they get even by eating grass in the back yard and then puking in the house. So they happily get some yogurt on their din-din![]()
OM45GE - Posted - 11/29/2012: 05:23:16
Toby loves to eat grass and it makes him puke too. He barely slows down on a walk as he happily grazes. He'll puke and then eat some more.
DeanT - Posted - 11/29/2012: 07:17:10
I hate how it sticks to the floor and gets all stringy when you try to clean it up. Sometimes the other dogs get to is first...
Alaina - Posted - 11/29/2012: 09:08:57
Charley likes chocolate. He has eaten his weight in chocolate chips more times than I can count (I didn't give them to him, he learned how to open the pantry door, they now live on the top shelf). He used to throw them up but now when he eats chocolate, he actually digests it... The vet just shakes her head and laughs, saying "what doesn't kill him will only make him stronger"

dog farts are rough, 'specially when you're in an inclosed duck blind
OM45GE - Posted - 11/29/2012: 10:16:56
My old Golden Retrieve had farts so bad they would gross him out. The smell would wake him up from a sound sleep. He'd sniff a couple of times and leave the room.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/29/2012: 10:49:40
When I have the time I'll tell you the tale of how I could make Kelly (the Golden) fart on demand.
