It's hard for us anymore too... especially with the three dogs
dat - Posted - 07/30/2012: 07:40:34
let them drive, or hook them up like sled dogs and save on gas

Toby could probably pull the car - he's strong enough - but he wouldn't care to.
DeanT - Posted - 07/31/2012: 07:42:08
Our would rather be in the car slobbering all over the windows
OM45GE - Posted - 07/31/2012: 09:38:26
If Toby is in the car he wants to get out. If he's out, he wants to get in.
DeanT - Posted - 07/31/2012: 11:01:02
we go down the highway and they stick their heads out the window and it blows their tongue out of their mouth
OM45GE - Posted - 07/31/2012: 11:21:20
Toby likes to do that too. I had a lady follow me into a gas station and give me a hard time about it. She said he should be restrained for his and our safety and that letting him stick his head out of the window causes all kinds of eye and ear problems.
I thanked her for her concern for my and Toby's well being and told her to mind her own business.
dat - Posted - 07/31/2012: 12:45:37
if the dog didn't like it, he wouldn't do it, it ain't like you twisted his paw and shoved his head out the window
OM45GE - Posted - 08/01/2012: 04:39:29
I had a Golden Retriever once who was prone to ear hematomas where a blood vessel would break in his ear flap and the flap would swell up with blood. Back then they would shave the ear, make an incision to let the blood drain and sew a row of buttons on either side of the flap to hold it closed. I had a different woman confront me asking what I had done to my dog. I explained and she apologized saying she thought I was just being macho.

I don't even know if we have them in our city. There was on in the mall 20 years ago, but then it went away.
dat - Posted - 08/01/2012: 10:41:28
Me neither, but sometimes we don't leave any scraps from the night before and I do go out then
OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2012: 04:09:21
I have an 11 year old who asks for Mc D's or BK every now and then and I'll get something while I'm there. It tastes OK but it's not really a satisfying meal to me.
dat - Posted - 08/02/2012: 07:16:59
the kids love mcdonalds, 'till they realize that it doesn't taste good
dat - Posted - 08/02/2012: 07:28:53
then they leave those on the floor so you can step on them at night while you're barefooted
OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2012: 10:03:21
I think we have more Legos in the house than any single other thing.
DeanT - Posted - 08/02/2012: 10:12:17
Since my daughters are all growed up and long gone, now I step on rawhide bones at night
dat - Posted - 08/02/2012: 10:19:34
wet or dry? I believe I would rather step on a dry one than wet one
OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2012: 11:43:32
Toby bats his rawhide bones around like soccer balls. It's amusing as hell - except at 2:00 AM!
dat - Posted - 08/02/2012: 13:39:11
just if you could train him to wait 'till 5:30, then he could be your alarm clock

Good idea, but I get up at 3:00 most days, so I'd just have to train him to wait an hour or so!
dat - Posted - 08/03/2012: 06:24:17
Waking up at three and the dog making noise at two isn't a good thing, that last hour before you need to get up is the best sleeping of the whole night
OM45GE - Posted - 08/03/2012: 06:36:12
You said it. I get up a three and take an hour walk with him. Then it's time to get ready for work and make a 5:30 train.
DeanT - Posted - 08/03/2012: 07:10:49
I feed my dogs and let them out a 2am... but then I go back to bed...
dat - Posted - 08/03/2012: 07:24:10
about the only time I'll wake up around two is when my bride is waking me up to tell me that she can't sleep, she figures if she can't sleep, nobody is gonna sleep
OM45GE - Posted - 08/03/2012: 08:30:21
I confess that I slept in late this morning and didn't get out of bed until 4:30. Half the day was gone!
dat - Posted - 08/03/2012: 10:08:02
Just made it back, bet Ya'll didn't even know I was gone.
funeral for a 21 year old that used to come by as a kid with our girls. we have a "snack cabinet" where we keep chips, crackers and stuff for the youngens, she would always head straight for the cabinet when she came over, that kid loved to eat and never was bigger than a switch. she moved off to Austin after high school, not much good happened after that
DeanT - Posted - 08/03/2012: 10:30:57
That doesn't sound like a good story. If I guessed why, would I be right?
dat - Posted - 08/03/2012: 10:35:35
probably would be, I don't know all the details, but I know she made some bad decisions after school even before she moved, then had the freedom of the big city away from family
