My grass is turning green... time to change the mower oil...

OM45GE - Posted - 03/15/2018:  15:40:24

My grass is under a couple of feet of snow.

DeanT - Posted - 03/15/2018:  18:12:16

75*F here today!

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/15/2018:  23:19:26

32 and snow- 4 inches, wet, and slippery, got stuck trying to climb a small hill.. backed down and went around the block

DeanT - Posted - 03/16/2018:  00:42:39

went running shirtless yesterday... got a slight sunburn

OM45GE - Posted - 03/16/2018:  10:33:22

I've got some suntan on my face. Everything else is pretty well covered up when I go outside.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/16/2018:  10:34:34

I had a bout with skin cancer, Bill? My bro in law did too.

OM45GE - Posted - 03/16/2018:  10:36:10

As have I. I actually use sunblock on my face when I ski.

DeanT - Posted - 03/16/2018:  14:44:30

I've been cooked almost every summer of my life. I've been saying it for many years... that skin cancer will probably get me. My dad had some removed from his neck, and my sister had some removed from her side/back before she was even 30. Everyone in my family has been scared of getting any sun, and always covered up to the extreme. I'm the only one who said screw it, and gets regularly tanned and sometimes burned. Interestingly, I've had the least amount of skin problems in the family.

We had boats when I was growing up and my mom's idea of sunblock was baby oil. I got bad burns a number of times as a kid. I've only had one skin cancer and it was the "good" kind. That was about 25 years ago and, so far, no repeats.

I used to burn badly at first, the I’d tan up. Got really burned on the tops of my feet at the beach once..had to wear sandals for a week

My cancer was in the small of my back. I expressed surprised when the doctor told me it was cancer because of where it was, my use of skin block and wearing shirts. He told me from the size of it, I had probably had a precipitating bad burn five to seven years prior to finding it. I flashed back to a time I was sailing with one of my best friends. It was a beautiful day and I took my shirt off and asked him to put sunblock on my back, which he did. A few hours later he said, "Wow, that s*** really works, I thought it was B-S". He didn't think sunblock really worked and just sort of slapped it on. He missed my lower back and I had a blistering burn on it.

I used to kid him about what kind of friend would give a buddy cancer.

DeanT - Posted - 03/17/2018:  15:37:09

my wife says that the vitamin D you get from the sun, is what your body needs to fight cancer, so its a catch 22

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/17/2018:  16:39:25

I know...my son in law has a brain tumour, it’s gone now after surgery and change of diet, buy to keep it at bay he sits out in the morning sun , shirtless for 20 minutes...even at -20

DeanT - Posted - 03/17/2018:  19:09:39

One of my 70 year old runner friends does the same thing!

OM45GE - Posted - 03/19/2018:  06:54:12

Apparently it's the early morning sunlight that promotes vitamin D production. Not sure why.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/23/2018:  07:46:43

I was curious about that too,,,I found this after some searching

“A great time in the sun is the morning at 6:00 to 09:00 am, Morning, and the time that should be avoided is at 10:00 to 16:00 pm. The 10 – 4 pm sunlight is not good for the body because it contains Ultra Violet rays which are risky.”

OM45GE - Posted - 03/23/2018:  08:37:48

So maybe it's a matter of what's safest rather then when it produces the most vitamin D

DeanT - Posted - 03/23/2018:  10:02:04

Yikes... I'm usually out in it, when ultraviolet ray gun is turned on...

OM45GE - Posted - 03/23/2018:  11:44:24

Yeah, me too. Hence the sunblock, shirts and wide brimmed hats.

DeanT - Posted - 03/23/2018:  19:09:20

I'm usually shirtless, on my bike or running

OM45GE - Posted - 03/24/2018:  05:00:23

I've seen photos of you Dean, you're pretty well ripped. There are some folks who shouldn't be out shirtless in any weather. I've seen things I can't un-see.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/24/2018:  05:28:20

Ya,really. What foods do you think put on the most pounds? Bread, potatoes, pizza, pasta?

DeanT - Posted - 03/24/2018:  06:51:05

Thanks Bill! I'm guilty of eating all the bad food, but training for marathons, they just become fuel. Raised on a farm, I drink a LOT of milk. About a half gallon a day.

OM45GE - Posted - 03/24/2018:  08:27:06

When I read about different diets, all I can think of is that losing or maintaining weight is just a matter of burning more calories than you take in. I knew a guy who was swimming to rehab from a work injury - he's lost the use of his legs. He was eating around five thousand calories a day, but he was swimming several hours a day and could barely keep weight on.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/24/2018:  08:36:35

Hours a day!...yow, not for this guy anymore. But I’ve stepped it up a bit the last few months, thnx to yooz guys inspiration. But next month back to trucking...not so much exercise,  although only six months this year.

It's hard to get much exercise driving. I used to go for walks when I bunked down for the night and again when I got up in the morning, but it was hard to do when you're trying to put in the miles.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/24/2018:  10:35:08

Ya, right Bill. And get a shower, eat, email, BHO, play banjo...the day’s done. I guess eliminate some internet,, make room for exercise.  But the biggie for me is NOT snacking between meals.

OM45GE - Posted - 03/24/2018:  11:27:00

That's a huge one, unless you just snack and skip the meals. I've read about that diet.

DeanT - Posted - 03/24/2018:  15:23:02

I'm averaging 4 hours a day of triathlon training... so yep, it's hard to keep weight on. I try to stay above 150 lbs, but it's a challenge.

OM45GE - Posted - 03/24/2018:  15:51:09

Chocolate Chip Cookies?

DeanT - Posted - 03/24/2018:  17:07:10

several times a week...

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/24/2018:  17:22:46

Wish they made more light cal snacks, or made with stevia

OM45GE - Posted - 03/24/2018:  19:50:30

There's always carrot sticks or fruit

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/25/2018:  08:48:30

2 carrot sticks and i’m done. I’ve been buying a lot of grapes, bananas and tomatoes lately.  (and of course, pickled herring, right Dean?.....ha)

Ha! I do eat a LOT of apples and carrots and raisins.

OM45GE - Posted - 03/27/2018:  06:40:57

Me too, but I still like a good old chocolate chip cookie.

DeanT - Posted - 03/27/2018:  06:45:38

Or a Snickers

OM45GE - Posted - 03/27/2018:  06:53:26

I can't eat candy. I had a MRSA infection a few years ago and was on some industrial strength antibiotics. Ever since, the consistency of candy makes me nauseous. I can't still eat chocolate cake, cookies, brownies, ice cream, etc., but a piece of chocolate makes me retch. That was a tough change for a true chocoholic.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/27/2018:  07:38:44

ooh,I had the best brownies ystrdy, love'em.

OM45GE - Posted - 03/27/2018:  10:36:57

Mmmmmmm

DeanT - Posted - 03/27/2018:  12:20:33

chocolate and caffeine are the only vices I have left...

OM45GE - Posted - 03/27/2018:  12:56:51

I don't know if they qualify as vices.

DeanT - Posted - 03/27/2018:  14:33:08

Then I have none... I live a boring life!

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/27/2018:  14:54:30

the vice squad won't be after you

DeanT - Posted - 03/27/2018:  16:13:53

I do have a nice little Harbor Freight vice bolted to the top of my roll-around tool box

OM45GE - Posted - 03/28/2018:  03:18:05

I rarely use my vice, but when I need it I’m glad to have it.

DeanT - Posted - 03/28/2018:  10:11:45

I'm the same, might not use it for a couple years... but when I need it, it's good to have!

OM45GE - Posted - 03/29/2018:  06:00:51

I've used the anvil several times. I never really thought about it when I got the vise, but it has come in handy.

DeanT - Posted - 03/29/2018:  06:39:11

Mine does't have an anvil, but it does have a nice flat part to hammer stuff on
