Lots of snow

OM45GE - Posted - 08/06/2014:  04:16:48

I like the snow, it means skiing.

DeanT - Posted - 08/06/2014:  05:49:50

and no lawn mowing or bugs!

dat - Posted - 08/06/2014:  05:57:37

red bugs, you don't know they bit till the next day, then you've got em fer a while

OM45GE - Posted - 08/06/2014:  06:50:10

Are they a local attraction? We don't have them here.

dat - Posted - 08/06/2014:  07:42:46

chiggars/ red bugs, they may be a more warm weather bug

DeanT - Posted - 08/06/2014:  10:12:37

chiggars were probably invented in Kansas. Only second place to the even worse, ticks

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/06/2014:  17:05:26

Black flies in northern Ontario and Manitoba fly around you in clouds all day long. They get under your clothing and you end up with bites all over. Early settlers were known to lose it and go screaming as they ran for the nearest creek or lake to jump in. I planted trees and did some other summer work on north Ontario in the early 70's. Old timers would tell you not to bathe or shower- best way not to attract them.

We've got a huge problem with Deer Ticks carrying Lyme Disease and several related diseases. In the earliest growth stage of the fiendish little beasties, they're about the size of a pencil point but can still infect you. I got infected but was treated before I got sick. My secretary was out of work for six months with it.

DeanT - Posted - 08/06/2014:  18:58:23

Well, cross off Mass and Canada as places I'll move to...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/07/2014:  03:30:29

Well there are things like insect repellant and even the ticks beat the hell out of tornados. big

DeanT - Posted - 08/07/2014:  05:43:30

It really sucks if there are bugs in the tornado shelter...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/07/2014:  06:58:45

Oh man, I bet.

I was canoeing once and decided to explore a small stream off the main river. It had lots of overhanging branches. All of the sudden I was aware that there were hundreds (if not thousands) of spiders in the canoe. They apparently had been falling off the branches as I brushed through. I don't mind spiders at all a few at a time, but this seriously freaked me out.

dat - Posted - 08/07/2014:  07:02:16

we have bugs and tornados, and hurricanes

OM45GE - Posted - 08/07/2014:  07:30:05

We had a tornado a few miles from here a couple of weeks ago but it was the first one in the county in decades. We also get hurricanes but they're usually just big wind and rain events, only occasionally are they really catastrophic.

DeanT - Posted - 08/07/2014:  10:31:40

No hurricanes in Kansas... hey, we have one thing going for us...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/07/2014:  11:58:09

There's Dorothy Gale.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/07/2014:  14:35:52

You're looking good in those ruby slippers.

DeanT - Posted - 08/07/2014:  15:24:46

I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too!

OM45GE - Posted - 08/07/2014:  16:53:53

The flying monkeys freaked me out when I was a kid. I had nightmares about them.

DeanT - Posted - 08/07/2014:  18:25:04

The movie was pretty tame compared to the other Oz books. That author was totally out there.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/08/2014:  06:16:43

Yeah, what an imagination!

dat - Posted - 08/08/2014:  07:12:58

I never have read any of his books,  I may have to set William Johnstone's books down fer a while

DeanT - Posted - 08/08/2014:  15:16:29

The pumpkin head was a cool character, that didn't make it into the Wizard of Oz movie.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/09/2014:  06:37:56

I almost always like the book better than the movie. I like using my imagination and there's no way to get everything from a book into a movie.

DeanT - Posted - 08/09/2014:  13:43:01

I think they need to make Calvin and Hobbs into a movie

OM45GE - Posted - 08/09/2014:  14:08:26

Haven't they?

DeanT - Posted - 08/09/2014:  19:31:27

I don't know... maybe they have?

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2014:  05:05:40

I thought I saw an ad for it.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/10/2014:  05:57:48

Did they ever make a "L'il Abner" movie? Daisy Mae herself would attract hordes of male moviegoers.

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2014:  07:08:09

Daisy Duke works for me...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2014:  13:19:15

She was the stuff of many dreams.

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2014:  13:34:23

I had the poster...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2014:  15:10:13

Hay bales or General Lee?

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/10/2014:  15:25:56

I guess Elly Mae Clampett and Daisy Duke were the Daisy Mae's

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2014:  17:36:04

Daisy Mae's what?

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/10/2014:  18:29:09

Can't remember - hhmmmm....

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2014:  18:41:36

dmiller - Posted - 08/10/2014:  21:07:12

Mary Ann (from Gilligan's Island) is 75.  How time flies, eh?

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2014:  23:07:22

Genie is 78

OM45GE - Posted - 08/11/2014:  02:31:52

I prefer holding to the memories.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/11/2014:  06:54:14

Yeah- granny Daisy, geriatric Mary Ann, and golden girl Barbara. Why do I feel arthritic all of a sudden.....

OM45GE - Posted - 08/11/2014:  07:10:31

It's hell isn't it?

DeanT - Posted - 08/11/2014:  09:49:33

I don't know if I would have the energy to go back in time and do it all over again...

dat - Posted - 08/11/2014:  10:01:31

the first time around was better

DeanT - Posted - 08/11/2014:  10:41:02

But just think of how much smarter you would be...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/11/2014:  11:52:39

That's assuming we could go back aware of what we know now.
