Wimp.

DeanT - Posted - 01/16/2012:  07:41:54

We were 68 yesterday... the land that winter forgot...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/16/2012:  08:59:20

Maybe Nome Alaska could send a few feet of snow your way. We had a foot of snow the beginning of October. It was gone in a few days and since then - nothing.

DeanT - Posted - 01/16/2012:  09:25:33

I'm about ready to just move to Alaska

dat - Posted - 01/16/2012:  09:50:51

Alaska would be nice when the sun is shinning.     but wheew, just think of the old drinking days of drink 'till the sun comes up, that would have been rough

OM45GE - Posted - 01/16/2012:  10:03:18

You would probably have to pick a new end point.

DeanT - Posted - 01/16/2012:  12:56:18

That would be a lot of tips in the tip jar if we was playing at a bar... that stayed open all night

dat - Posted - 01/16/2012:  13:44:59

playing that long you may have to change your strings before sunrise

OM45GE - Posted - 01/16/2012:  13:52:21

Yes, but then in summer you would need to get a say job.

DeanT - Posted - 01/16/2012:  16:41:02

I would sleep all summer...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/17/2012:  03:07:28

I have trouble sleeping in the daytime so I wouldn't do well in the land of the midnight sun.

dat - Posted - 01/17/2012:  05:52:54

Plenty of time to sight see though

OM45GE - Posted - 01/17/2012:  06:20:33

Good point. THe last company I worked for was building a plant in Denmark. The days were very ling in the summer there. It made going out after work nice but it still got dark so I had no trouble sleeping.

DeanT - Posted - 01/17/2012:  07:21:55

I just want to go somewhere where there is snow

OM45GE - Posted - 01/17/2012:  08:13:58

If you hurry you can come here. It will probably be melted by this afternoon though.

dat - Posted - 01/17/2012:  10:01:26

no snow, but it's 72 degrees and high humidity here

DeanT - Posted - 01/17/2012:  11:05:52

Nuthin but sunshine in Kansas... it never stops

OM45GE - Posted - 01/17/2012:  11:09:27

Return of the dust bowl?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/17/2012:  14:41:04

We were close to 60 today and yucky rainy. But I think it's supposed to get colder again tomorrow.

DeanT - Posted - 01/17/2012:  16:45:22

Kansas actually had more days over 100 degrees in 2011, than it did in the dust bowl years. Yes, that is a fear around here.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/17/2012:  19:31:41

Scary stuff.

DeanT - Posted - 01/18/2012:  00:31:00

We are still waiting for some sort of winter around here... so far it still seems like September

OM45GE - Posted - 01/18/2012:  04:08:38

It is scary. The weather has been so weird this year.

DeanT - Posted - 01/18/2012:  07:30:46

Two days ago there were golfers in shorts (I live next to a golf course). The city is loving the weather, the golf courses are staying busy!

dat - Posted - 01/18/2012:  07:57:18

it got cold last night, well down to about 40, then it is s'posed to warm up again

DeanT - Posted - 01/18/2012:  10:19:54

I think the earth is about ready to do a polar shift... probably on Dec 21 :)

dat - Posted - 01/18/2012:  13:33:02

what time?

DeanT - Posted - 01/18/2012:  17:31:23

Midnight

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2012:  04:16:50

I'll set my alarm.

DeanT - Posted - 01/19/2012:  08:41:46

You have a year to blow all your savings and do all your bad habits

dat - Posted - 01/19/2012:  08:51:18

I think I've already done all my bad habits and my savings will be blown as soon as we pay our property taxes in January

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2012:  09:49:00

Hmmmm, what can I get for $19.95?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/19/2012:  16:45:56

I found a dime the other day in the parking lot!

DeanT - Posted - 01/19/2012:  20:09:28

I'm craving a smoke...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/20/2012:  04:13:04

How long has it been?

DeanT - Posted - 01/20/2012:  07:17:35

Sept 8, 2006

OM45GE - Posted - 01/20/2012:  09:54:08

What, you don't know the minute?

big

I know I'm dating myself, but I quit the cigarettes when it hit .50 a pack in 1980. I don't remember the day or month but I did just stop after smoking for about 12 years.

dat - Posted - 01/20/2012:  10:07:44

I've been thinking about a big ol bite of copenhagen for the last week or so, I think it was sometime in '07, could have been the end of '06   I didn't pay that much attention to the date, but the urge still comes along pretty hard, just tell yourself you don't need it, then pick up yer banjer and pick a few songs

DeanT - Posted - 01/20/2012:  10:08:58

I stopped in mid cigarette. They always say you'll know the time, and I just knew. I gave away the rest of my carton, as well as a sleeve of skoal that day. 3 days of hell, then not so bad after that.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/20/2012:  17:30:34

I haven't been entirely tobacco free. I enjoy a cigar every now and then - probably less than 6 a year at most and maybe once or twice a year I'll have a cigarette with a friend. It's not as enjoyable as it was then.

DeanT - Posted - 01/20/2012:  17:59:54

I still say that of a doctor ever give me two weeks to live... I'm going down with a carton of ciggs and a case of whiskey...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/20/2012:  18:07:35

Out in a blaze of glory!

DeanT - Posted - 01/20/2012:  18:10:30

I'm thinking haze of glory :)

OM45GE - Posted - 01/20/2012:  18:11:14

LOL That was a good one.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/21/2012:  10:41:39

I never had much of an urge to smoke when I was younger. But as I get older I go through periods of stress where I really wish I did smoke. But I know myself well enough to know if I ever started I would never, ever, be able to stop.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/21/2012:  12:10:55

I remember reading about Sammy Davis Junior, who died of lung cancer. He was able to quit heroine, cocaine and drinking, but not cigarettes.

DeanT - Posted - 01/21/2012:  12:41:50

I've only stopped for now. I never tell my brain that I'll never have another, that would be too dangerous! I say to myself, sure I'm gonna smoke like a chimney and get drunk as a skunk tomorrow.... but today I'm staying clean. Then I smile and go on about my business. My smart self knows tomorrow never comes... my smokey drunk self is too stupid to know that :)

OM45GE - Posted - 01/21/2012:  14:45:44

Sounds like you've outsmarted youself!

Seriously, there's a lot of people who would benefit from learning how to do that. Congratulations.

DeanT - Posted - 01/21/2012:  16:16:26

Hey thanks! I've seen too many people try to "change" or "fix character defects" and some even claim to be "cured" and proudly announce that they are X-smokers or druggies or boozers... and whatever other BS they learn in recovery (yes I've been through it... more than once). I don't make it any more complicated than it needs to be, and will never try to lie to myself or fake myself out. I'm a drunk and a smoker and a burnout and reserve the right to destroy my life anytime I want. I have no intention of pretending I'm anything else! But I can make it to midnight tonight. I'll worry about tomorrow then. Even after 21 years (almost 30 for the other stuff), to tell me I can never have another drink or fix or smoke is more than I can handle, and wakes up my rebellious nature. But telling me I can destroy my life tomorrow if I want, puts the ball in my court, and the decision is an easy one.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/21/2012:  16:25:13

I'm similar. The best way to get me to do something is to tell me I can't. I'm not proud of it but it's the way I am. I call myself a rebel without a clue.

The worst part is that I used to work in psychatric health care. blush
