We still have a store in town, where you can buy small hardware by the pound
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/03/2018: 19:05:23
Better than those small plastic packages for $3.95 with 8 nails in’em
DeanT - Posted - 07/04/2018: 06:23:24
I bought a pound of small screws for $1.50 about 20 years ago... I used several hundred, and have several hundred still in the bag. Beats going to LOWES and buying 8 in a package for $3.95.

good for Seattle banning single use plastic straws and utensils

I pick up plastic litter when I walk the dog. It drives me crazy when I find a plastic water bottle steps away from a recycle bin.
DeanT - Posted - 07/04/2018: 13:59:43
recycling was big in Kansas in the past... not sure what happened, but no one does it anymore, and all the collection places are gone.
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/04/2018: 14:27:10
I noticed the same in Arizona - no separate recycling trash cans in the parks. But every home has them though.
OM45GE - Posted - 07/04/2018: 16:35:19
We have mandatory recycling in town with curbside pickup. The town also has recycling and trash bins all over the place. That's part of what makes it so frustrating when someone tossed their stuff on the ground.
DeanT - Posted - 07/04/2018: 16:56:04
we used to have separate cans and voluntary curbside recycling, but the trash companies started charging for collecting it... and that was the end of that.

I did four miles this morning and picked up six plastic water bottles.

Massachusetts had a 5 cent deposit on carbonated beverage containers but not on uncarbonated beverages. There was a ballot initiative a few years ago to add them to the deposit program. It was vigorously opposed by the retail and bottling industries and didn’t pass.
One of the things they claimed was that deposits don’t help with litter. I see at least ten times as much no deposit litter so I don’t buy it.

When I was a kid, Coke bottles were returnable and refillable
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/05/2018: 10:44:39
Ya,,remember some were all scraped and rough on the outside from years of refilling
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/05/2018: 14:40:54
Ya, also a grape Crush , out of the loud clattering cooler filled with ice cold water

I used to hate ginger beer,, now I like it but not easy to find
OM45GE - Posted - 07/07/2018: 04:28:08
My son and I are working on his college applications. It's hard to believe. I distinctly remember holding him on my forearm and marveling that I had a son.

My wife came home with two bottles of ginger beer and one of root beer. She thought they were all root beer and didn't care for the ginger beer at all. I have one bottle if you want to stop by sometime.

I’ll take you up on that ginger beer, Bill... maybe someday I’ll be back in MA and have extra time to drop in.
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/10/2018: 22:09:19
I appreciate that, Bill. Where did she get them? ..I have a hard time finding them nowadays.
OM45GE - Posted - 07/11/2018: 03:46:06
I just looked at the bottle and it’s got Stop and Shop’s logo on it. They’re a grocery chain from Massachusetts with stores in New England, New York and New Jersey. I found it on their website. It’s called SB Ginger Beer.
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/11/2018: 04:25:53
Hmm...haven’t seen it anywhere. I have been able to get this at Target, but it’s not the true ginger beer
OM45GE - Posted - 07/11/2018: 07:10:38
Keep your eyes peeled for a Stop and Shop the next time you’re in NY or NJ and if you do get up here let me know.

Moxie was developed in Maine - not too far from me. I don't care for it myself.
