I know there are at least three x-wife phone #'s I'd throw right into the trash...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/11/2014:  16:48:10

And a couple if ex girlfriends I wouldn't have let go so easily.

DeanT - Posted - 08/11/2014:  18:10:25

And a lot more I would have never called back....

OM45GE - Posted - 08/11/2014:  18:14:19

There are a few jerks I would punch in the nose instead of avoiding.

DeanT - Posted - 08/11/2014:  22:54:49

I'd also stay at the bike store I was working at... and probably own it now.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/12/2014:  02:45:30

There are some musical instruments, cars and motorcycles I would have kept. Sold them way too cheap.

DeanT - Posted - 08/12/2014:  05:45:02

I would still have my Les Paul because I wouldn't have married the x-wife who pawned it

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/12/2014:  07:20:18

Coulda, shoulda, woulda huh? Yeah, my D-18 , 1927 Gibson , Jane Sommerfield, Lynne ......,etc. lol

DeanT - Posted - 08/12/2014:  10:15:51

I may also would have followed my dreams and played baseball. My only real regret in life.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/12/2014:  11:07:04

I was never very good at baseball. I enjoyed playing but my position was usually Left Out.

I always liked baseball,  I wasn't much of a fielder, but I could hit,  I played left field and was usually 4th or 5th in the batting lineup for cleanup.  didn't always work like the coach wanted it though

DeanT - Posted - 08/12/2014:  15:32:45

I was an all-state player and got scouted in high school and invited to a Cincinnati farm team try-out, and could have easily gotten a college scholarship. I know now that I could have made a career at simi-pro, and could possibly have made it to the big leagues. But the pull of aviation and the Air Force was just a little stronger and more of a sure thing.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/12/2014:  15:34:40

I lived and breathed hockey when I was younger. Had a "cup of coffee" with the U. Of Guelph Gryphons my sophomore year. Then banjo, guitar, girls and beer sidetracked me. No regrets though- my shoulder still gives me trouble.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/12/2014:  16:31:20

I was so far into music, sports just never had a chance.

DeanT - Posted - 08/12/2014:  18:16:34

I didn't get into music until I was an adult. My dad gave me the choice of little league or piano lessons. Was an easy choice. I was the only one of 5 siblings that didn't take any music lessons as a kid, and 50 years later, I'm the only one playing anything, and making a living (supplemental retirement) at it.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/12/2014:  18:27:06

I started with piano lessons when I was about seven or eight switched to guitar when I was 12 and started banjo a few years later. Never stopped.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/12/2014:  21:34:14

We had a pump organ (no jokes pls ,lol) in our house- my older brother gave me lessons for a while but I didn't get inspired by it. At 14 I took guitar lessons for a year- Alfred's book 1 and Mel Bay book 2. Then quit lessons and got in with friends learning fingerpicking. Took up banjo later on in my early twenties.

DeanT - Posted - 08/12/2014:  22:49:11

We had an electric organ and piano in our house. Guitars were "instruments of the devil"

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2014:  02:34:51

There have been times I might have agreed with that. cool

DeanT - Posted - 08/13/2014:  05:46:37

we got in trouble if we got caught with rock n roll 45's

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/13/2014:  05:58:21

I hear you Dean. Rock'n'roll, playing cards on Sunday, TV , etc. were all frowned on by our religious parents. Then after a few years they relaxed on those rules - guess they figured it was a losing battle.

DeanT - Posted - 08/13/2014:  10:52:15

My dad wouldn't shop any time during the week, and any stores that were open on Sunday.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2014:  14:27:02

Thankfully, I didn't have to go through that sort of thing until my parents got divorced when I was 13. My mom remarried a SOB who hated my music. It certainly wasn't on religious grounds, he just thought rock and roll was bad music. He backed up his opinions with his fists, especially when he was drunk.

DeanT - Posted - 08/13/2014:  16:41:42

When I got divorced, I was pretty much disowned by my parents. Bill, the SOB is lucky you didn't shoot his ass

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2014:  17:18:21

I did knock him on his ass when he hit my little sister. I was around fourteen.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/13/2014:  18:02:13

Whoa Bill. That's some tough stuff to go through. I have a couple of friends who had mean, drunken fathers and step- fathers. One of them shoved a loaded shotgun into his Dad's mouth when he was only 13- to stop him from beating on his Mom. Gruesome and heartbreaking. Makes me grateful I only had to put up with strict religion.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2014:  18:09:19

He scared the crap out of me. I ended up running away from home when I was 15. The weird thing was, I saw him about 20 years later and he was a pathetic little man. Even as a kid I probably could have beaten the crap out of him if he didn't have me so intimidated.  Music was my escape then and is still my solace and comfort.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/13/2014:  18:12:48

Music can be a powerful healer. It kept me,and still keeps me sane.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2014:  18:23:42

Yes indeed.

DeanT - Posted - 08/13/2014:  22:53:27

Athletics has always been my escape. I'm still not sure how I fell into the music or why, it just sort of happened. Very often I feel like I'm on the outside looking on, when I'm playing, like it's not me.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/14/2014:  05:12:41

I've had something like that happen occasionally when I'm playing with a band. It's as though I hear everyone together instead of me playing along with others. If I'm playing solo or with one or two other players it doesn't happen at all.

DeanT - Posted - 08/14/2014:  05:41:47

It's like playing without thinking. It can be really cool. Like out-of-body. Music was a social thing for me. When we hung out and partied there was always a guitar in the corner, and people were always jamming. So I was like hey let me try that.

I was replying to the wrong page,      but music is needed too

DeanT - Posted - 08/14/2014:  10:32:29

I don't know what will happen to me and music if the band ever hangs it up

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/14/2014:  15:18:35

You can start a new band, with new members and new material, no?

OM45GE - Posted - 08/14/2014:  16:03:23

Sometimes it's not the same. My best friend and musical partner moved about 100 miles away about 25 years ago. We are still best friends and still play together but we don't play out much any more. I hook up with different players around here but it doesn't click the same as Brad and I do.

DeanT - Posted - 08/14/2014:  17:11:39

That's why I don't know what I'll do.... I never sought out a band, and never really had a desire to do it. They asked me, and here I am, still doing it nearly 3000 gigs later. It's a blast, but not something I have to do. I was in a second band for 4 years, and two bands was borderline too much. When they quit (lead singer had 3rd kid and decided being a dad was more important), it was a HUGE relief. I could easily see me hanging my banjo up and never touching it again. I could just as easily be a night time stocker at LOWES.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/14/2014:  19:02:10

Does it pay well doing night time stalking? (Groan.....)

DeanT - Posted - 08/14/2014:  22:45:48

Probably better than playing musictongue

OM45GE - Posted - 08/15/2014:  03:04:57

The music pyramid is a pretty pointed one for sure.

DeanT - Posted - 08/15/2014:  06:33:30

I made more in a week at my job, than I do now in a month playing music

dat - Posted - 08/15/2014:  08:39:01

I don't play well with others approve

I pick a little with my bro in law when we go camping,  my bride hasn't picked up her guitar in about 4 or 5 years which kinda cut back on my wanting to pick as much at home.   I haven't really picked much since I sliced my fingertips on the tablesaw.  I'll take it off the rack and dust it off every few months,   but the desire isn't there much anymore like it used to be,

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/15/2014:  10:42:28

I'm just back to banjo after 26+ years. Got the "fever" again. Weekly jams (when I'm home) and festivals got me stoked again. I'd been inside solo guitar for so long I forgot how much fun it is playing with others.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/15/2014:  14:01:24

I mostly play for my own enjoyment, probably 80% solo guitar. I do finger style guitar competitions when one is held within a reasonable drive, the occasional wedding and open mike night.

DeanT - Posted - 08/15/2014:  15:21:14

A week from today will be the 10Th anniversary of our first gig. A dance party for the local Goodwill Industries. We've been back every year.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/16/2014:  18:41:09

Building good will for Goodwill?

DeanT - Posted - 08/16/2014:  19:24:58

They should give us some coupons for their stores...
