Probably so, lights from town make it hard to see. we can see the glow at night in the direction of town
dat - Posted - 08/15/2015: 07:14:17
my sister says she likes living in town because she is close to everything, which is funny to me cause when we go visit here it takes us 45 min to an hour to go anywhere she mentions. there is more stuff to do, but it takes a long time to to get to anywhere in Dallas

I grew up on a farm. Now I'm a fool for the city. I love it here. Gas station and convenience store 5 houses down the street. every restaurant known to man within two miles, golf course across the street, hardware and store and bank up the street, and the AF Base two miles down the street for groceries. Even a Hospital ER less than a mile away.
dat - Posted - 08/15/2015: 10:22:02
that wouldn't be bad, at my sisters it seems to take a 30 min to get out of her neighborhood, then you get on the 635 loop and drive a while, lots of stuff on the highway, but it's a headache getting of and off without getting run over, then there are 500 thousand people that are going to the same place you are, after driving an hour, then you have to wait in line

In 2014, Wichita was voted the nation's least congested city. I lived in Tulsa years ago, and it was a pain to get around in.

my bro in law mows and weedeats his yard and it takes him less than ten min taking out , mowing and putting up equipment. their whole backyard is concrete and a pool
DeanT - Posted - 08/17/2015: 10:18:28
yep, 10 mins or so to mow the lawn. Our back yard is all straw for the dogs
dat - Posted - 08/17/2015: 10:32:58
when I mow everything and weedeat around the house and barn, I can spend a whole day, or 6 to 7 hours anyway, but I mow slow on the rider

I've been so busy lately it's hard to get over here much, but I just saw this and thought of Dean.
dat - Posted - 08/17/2015: 12:45:23
I opened a blank page, I thought you thought better of Dean than that ![]()

I was going to say "dang it" but thought this was a family friendly site and maybe that was a little strong.

I had a Kent guitar first - it had high frets at the 11th and 12th that buzzed the strings, so I filed'em down, figuring I'll never use those.
dat - Posted - 08/20/2015: 08:06:44
never had a guitar, my bride has a martin d28 that she got when she was 16, but I'm to scared to try to play it
dat - Posted - 08/21/2015: 09:01:07
one of her brothers tried to buy it, he got drunk and backed over his 1960 Gibson J50, called her and said he wanted to buy her guitar, she pretty much told him how stupid he was and No, it wasn't for sale. her other brother has about the same year model Gibson, he may get drunk, but he doesn't get out any of his instruments when he drinks
DeanT - Posted - 08/21/2015: 16:04:24
Our rhythm guitar player has a Martin. She's played it her whole adult life, and it's beat to crap. Best sounding guitar I ever heard in real life. I doubt it will ever be for sale, probably get burried with her.

My first guitar was a Silvertone (Sears model). It was 1968 and I was in high school, but hanging out at the "hippy hangout" there at Indiana University. Fella came through from Flint Michigan, and he needed gas money to get back to Flint. He had a Silvertone guitar that he had gotten from a roommate who didn't want it anymore. He sold it to me for 20 bucks. As cheap as it was - - it actually sounded half-way decent.
DeanT - Posted - 08/21/2015: 22:07:43
I can't even remember where mine came from, probably a garage sale
Scaggs7 - Posted - 08/22/2015: 19:49:08
My first guitar was a Harmony
My first banjo was a Silvertone
Abt. 1955

Aluminum El Degas was my first banjo that I really worked hard to learn. I had a Framus before that one, but didn't do much with it - I didn't have " the bug" yet.
DeanT - Posted - 08/25/2015: 10:26:21
My bandmates made me get a banjo, because I was the only one who could play one. I'd really rather play my Tele
dat - Posted - 08/26/2015: 08:50:53
ifin the band wants you to get a banjo, did the band help pay for it? I know the answer, but I had to ask
chuckv97 - Posted - 08/27/2015: 16:05:58
I had the reverse, sort of. My duo partner had a mandolin and got me to play it on some tunes for variety, besides my banjo and guitar.
dat - Posted - 09/01/2015: 05:58:55
strings are to close on a mando for me to not have any off notes
OM45GE - Posted - 09/02/2015: 03:47:49
My son just started playing the mandolin. He's already learned a few tunes and is playing along with me after just two weeks.
OM45GE - Posted - 09/02/2015: 07:11:22
Yeah, it's great. He's mostly a trumpeter and piano player and, while we do play together some, the mandolin fits in better with my stuff.
dat - Posted - 09/02/2015: 12:07:55
my brother played the drums, my sisters the flute and piccalo, I try the banjo but not well, our kids don't play anything, the oldest tried the piano and the youngest the fiddle, but neither stuck with it much
