I gave both my daughters some guitar lessons, but they don't play much now. Hopefully they can get back to it when they get urge later on.

my cousin played the piano for a living all his life, never had a job except playing and tuning pianos, he learned to read music after he retired a couple of years ago.
I wasn't blessed with that gift of music, my want to isn't strong enough to get through my inability, even though my want to has been strong off and on

I was the only one a 5 siblings to play nothing as a kid. Now I'm the only one playing anything. Today was my band's 11th anniversary gig. This was our first gig ever (company Labor Day dance) and they have invited us back every year.
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/03/2015: 08:20:00
Looking good. What's the tune you get the most requests for?
DeanT - Posted - 09/03/2015: 10:46:04
Thanks you guys! "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" is probably our biggest request. But for yesterday's gig, they have requested "Boot Scootin Boogie" every year, to the point it's become a tradition.

one question, why do those gee tars have strings coming out the bottom? ![]()
dat - Posted - 09/03/2015: 12:55:29
looks like it might be, it'll trip up who ever gets close to them.
I don't like strings hanging off stuff, my weedeater that had a string plugged in always got cut, so I got a gas one. I have some sunglasses with a string on the back that I had to take off cause I always felt it on my neck, my tilley hat has a string that I tuck up inside it, I do have some shirts and britches that have strings hanging off them that are pretty comfortable though
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/03/2015: 15:44:46
I don't have any stuff hanging off me, don't wear carpenter pants with the loop , and don't even wear a watch. I always get that stuff caught on something - drives me crazy.

We are more country/swing than bluegrass... hence the eeelectrical geeetars

I still have and play my old Stratocaster but prefer playing unplugged

I like a lot of the old country / swing, Bob Wills / Tommy Duncan type stuff, Ray Benson and Asleep at the wheel that's about all I know though. probably a lot of other good ones

been a while since I was a union member, but I always told them to keep the shirt and save the money on shipping
dat - Posted - 09/09/2015: 12:42:12
most of mine are blank faded pocket t shirts, or faded denim shirts with the sleeves cut out,
I used to have a lot of snap on and mac tools t shirts, but I don't buy any tools from them anymore

I'm about ready for a goodwill run to clear some space in my closet
dat - Posted - 09/09/2015: 14:46:51
if they are printed instead of ironed on, they make good rags, shop rags, furniture rags, polish clothes, varnish smearer on'ers, dust rags, boot polish rags , wrap around when you cut yourself rags
DeanT - Posted - 09/09/2015: 18:25:36
There's about 10 of my old ones in the garage as rags. The good old cotton ones. I HATE the newer synthetic t-shirts, they are not ragqworthy, no absorption. You go to wipe the sweat off your forehead on the sleeve... and you just smear the sweat around.

I've got a red white and blue bumper sticker on one of my fiddle cases that says:
Western Swing Ain't Dead - - It's
ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL.
I have T-shirts from bluegrass festivals that are still wearable,
and they are older than most of the folks I work with.
DeanT - Posted - 09/09/2015: 22:06:01
I'm going to wear my Asleep At the Wheel t-shirt today. My oldest t-shirt is from the 1970's
dat - Posted - 09/10/2015: 10:52:05
my bride bought me some "breathable" t shirts, they are slick as satin and don't flex with me, they hang in the closet and she keeps asking over and over why I don't like them
DeanT - Posted - 09/10/2015: 11:29:02
They are great for hot gigs, as they wick and the wind blows right through them. Definitely cooler, but no softness whatsoever.

I go out running every day, year round, so I stay tanned, and haven't been burned in years
dat - Posted - 09/11/2015: 08:47:57
my legs burn if I wear shorts, so I don't wear them, I don't care for the feel of air or wind on my leg hairs either, long pants and white legs, but I do get a tan on my arms and shoulders without burning much
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/11/2015: 10:43:30
I've got driver's tan - left arm tanned, left side of face too,,other side white
dmiller - Posted - 09/11/2015: 19:32:15
Always have had a "T-shirt tan" and nothing else from doing "grunt work". Back of the neck and arms from biceps down were "done by the sun". I don't even own a pair of shorts and I'm fond of T-shirts and jeans, so the rest of me hasn't seen the sun for decades
dmiller - Posted - 09/11/2015: 19:48:56
Speaking of clothes - - the 23 year old daughter of a good friend of mine passed away Sept. 8th. Visitation is tomorrow (Sat.) and looking through my "good clothes", I realized I had nothing suitable to wear to the funeral home. I had to go shopping for an appropriate pair of black pants and a dark grey shirt to wear there. It wasn't fun. Everything looked "too new and shiny". Finally found what I needed (that looked good and somewhat "used") and got out of the store. Shopping for work shirts/ jeans/ boots/ etc. is easy compared to "formal shopping". But it will be worth it to be "proper" when I show up to pay respects. The family is "good people".
DeanT - Posted - 09/11/2015: 22:19:00
I've actually had the best luck for "good" clothes at Goodwill
