We have a large portrait of him in our sitting room.......next to one of The 'King'
ErikH - Posted - 06/04/2013: 17:19:22
I'm afraid I don't have a portrait of either, but I do have some photo prints of the Duke that came with my special edition of "Rio Bravo".
mbanjo - Posted - 06/05/2013: 14:01:26
My wife collects all his movies......only a couple she hasn't got
ErikH - Posted - 06/05/2013: 15:26:38
I've got a few of them on DVD; mostly later stuff, though. I think the oldest one I have is Rio Bravo.
ErikH - Posted - 06/05/2013: 16:05:27
I prefer his westerns. Rio Bravo is probably my favorite, but I also love Big Jake--Richard Boone is great as the heavy in that one.
mbanjo - Posted - 06/05/2013: 23:49:34
Did they ever appear in the same movie?.............would have been a good one...........
ErikH - Posted - 06/06/2013: 02:14:31
I'm not aware that they ever were, but it would have been good.
banjoscotty - Posted - 06/06/2013: 03:12:22
the story goes that clint wanted to do a movie but john thought
they were not compatable
mbanjo - Posted - 06/06/2013: 15:22:03
Its a pity.........we could have had epic movies like........"Two mules for rooster cogburn" or. "Every which way but McQ".......and heaps more............
ErikH - Posted - 06/07/2013: 06:35:12
Yes, although I don't think Wayne spent much time behind the camera.
banjoscotty - Posted - 06/07/2013: 07:49:39
Lash LaRue,Bob Steel,Sunset Carson,Ken Maynard,Eddie Dean
Wild Bill Elliot,Hoot Gibson,,,just to mention a few were the
western heros of my childhood.
ErikH - Posted - 06/07/2013: 14:48:44
Mine were the Lone Ranger and the Cisco Kid reruns on Sunday mornings. I know Bob Steele from The Big Sleep, and Rio Bravo, among other movies, I've heard of Hoot Gibson, but I'm woefully ignorant of the others. Oh, I remember reruns of Hopalong Cassidy, too.
mbanjo - Posted - 06/07/2013: 16:14:02
Bit of trivia.....I just came across the names of some of the dukes horses in his movies...... Banner, Cochise, Duke, Beau, Steel, Dollar.......there must be more I would think?
ErikH - Posted - 06/07/2013: 18:49:27
Probably--I know Dollar was his horse in The Shootist, Beau was his horse in True Grit (until the Famous gunfight), and Cochise was in El Dorado.
mbanjo - Posted - 06/07/2013: 20:08:09
I seem to remember him calling one of his horses some unsavoury names in one of his movies......but my memory isn't that good..
ErikH - Posted - 06/08/2013: 13:14:25
I wanted to call ours Dog, but I was over ruled by my wife and son. Even so, when she hears me go "Dog" in a stern voice, she knows it's time to listen.
mbanjo - Posted - 06/08/2013: 14:04:33
Theres a new book out about him....... variety.com/2013/film/news/joh...00492739/
banjoscotty - Posted - 06/09/2013: 03:31:36
But I can't read NEW writings.I learned to read
in the old school
ErikH - Posted - 06/09/2013: 17:27:06
I don't know if I would want to know personal things about him.
Alaina - Posted - 06/09/2013: 20:10:15
Thanks for taking care of the last word for me, I'm sure he missed being with me!
mbanjo - Posted - 06/09/2013: 21:26:36
He went AWOL we thought you had found him a new home in the lone word state.
mbanjo - Posted - 06/10/2013: 12:05:33
Its so secret that only one word ever found its way there...he was the first and the last.......
banjoscotty - Posted - 06/10/2013: 12:59:42
OH Golly Gee,,,Here we go again,,,,,,Good to see you Alaina
ErikH - Posted - 06/10/2013: 15:33:56
If there is only one word, there must not be any politicians there....
ErikH - Posted - 06/11/2013: 15:40:10
I'd venture to guess there are no women there either................
mbanjo - Posted - 06/12/2013: 18:44:38
You could be right Erik............after all, Adam used to call her a 'Tart'
