The worst hangover I ever had was from scotch. My hair even hurt the next day. Of course, it could have something to do with the fact that I drank nearly the whole bottle.

64oz strawberry margarita on my 21st bday... It was Vegas, my best friend bet me that I wouldn't finish it... The next morning I wished like hell that I had lost that bet.

The worst hangovers are from any drink that contains anniseed of which there are many.,..........you feel ok the next day until you have a drink.of water .........and voila you are drunk all over again.
ErikH - Posted - 01/09/2013: 16:18:25
I've never had that particular experience with anise; I've done shots of sambucca and ouzo, but perhaps not enough to achieve that particular effect.
I've found that Gatorade and greasy food seems to work as well as anything else. Of course, the hair of the dog is the best cure, but if you aren't careful, you are just pushing the hangover back until later.

Pernot was the drink that did it for me............had to drink quite a bit though, I don't think I cound do it now.......Ricard is another name that comes to mind...............haven't had any for years
ErikH - Posted - 01/10/2013: 02:22:31
Pernod I'm familiar with; it turns milky white when alcohol is added to it, correct? Not familiar with Ricard.
I suppose the syrupy nature of most cordials means you are asking for trouble if you try to drink ridiculous amounts.

Amaretto is my liquor of choice, tastes good with coke, oj, or more amaretto lol

I saw a t-shirt once that said "Instant Idiot--Just add Alcohol"

Except for a couple of cold beers each day I don't drink much anymore..........when I was in my late teens I held the town record for drinking a yard of ale..............also used to be able to drink a pint of mild beer in 5 seconds.....no way in the world could I do it now.
ErikH - Posted - 01/11/2013: 02:16:36
I have a single glass of bourbon most evenings, and the occasional beer on the weekend. No way I could drink like I used to.

Who in, their right mind , would even want to?
I came home one night after a drunken gig and
forgot to bring my Les Paul Standard with me.
Wife hurried back to the bar and they were just
locking the door. But had put my guitar in the storage
room to save for me. Whew, that was the beginning
of the end of my drinking days.I drink no alchol now.
And wife stayed with me too,,,,,,,,,,

I don't usually drink unless it's a special occasion or amaretto with cranberry juice with supper. Never been a huge fan of beer ever since my mom thought it would be funny to play a trick on me. I was 7 and drinking water out of a beer bottle while eating lunch with my folks. Out of nowhere, mom yelled "hey what's that?" I turned around and she switched my bottle with her bottle that actually had beer in it. When I turned back around, she said cheers, we toasted, and I realized what had happed a sip too late. Needless to say, there was bud light and bologna spit out onto the wall behind her... Thankfully she didn't make me clean it up LOL

I was brought up in the north of England where it was common practice to spend just about every evening at the local pub, every street had a pub........ my street was lucky we had three.........it was said that the town had a pub for every day of the year, and although I didn't count , I did visit quite a few of them in my time.........that must be where I dveloped my taste for beer
Alaina - Posted - 01/11/2013: 11:35:01
I like it if it's a fruity beer, but not a huge fan otherwise
mbanjo - Posted - 01/11/2013: 12:07:05
Of course it would be a lot cheaper when we took them out if they WERE beer fans. :-) some of those fancy drinks are surely well overpriced.

I can only hope that she left him in jail that night too. Nothing is scarier than knowing you're in trouble with your mom and not knowing how long you'll have to wait to feel her wrath
mbanjo - Posted - 01/11/2013: 12:38:58
He may learn his lesson and live longer for it......well done mom!

Actually, I had a double post the other day when the page froze up. Not quite sure why it posted twice; I didn't hit any buttons or anything.
Alaina - Posted - 01/11/2013: 15:09:59
It double-posts mine if I hit the back button after posting something...

Ever notice if you hit your thumb with a hammer outside on a cold day, it hurts more than if you do it inside where it's warm?
ErikH - Posted - 01/12/2013: 12:51:00
Don't know. I know that once when I was installing a hardwood floor, I was trying to "persuade" a slightly warped piece into place, missed, and hit my thumb so hard that I split it open. My knees got wobbly that time.
mbanjo - Posted - 01/12/2013: 13:19:26
The sight of blood gives a weird feeling inside, especially when it's your own:-)
ErikH - Posted - 01/12/2013: 15:09:31
Actually, it wasn't the blood. I've seen my own blood plenty of times, and couple of those times there was quite a bit of it. I cut open my knuckle once deep enough that I could see the tendons, and that didn't make me wobbly. With the thumb, I hit it so hard, it didn't even hurt at first. I saw I split the nail, then watched as the skin opened up on the other side of the thumb. Then it started hurting.
