I don't mind them myself but I don't like being surprised by them. I read an interesting article once that said fear of snakes was genetic. If you weren't afraid of them, you didn't tend to survive to pass on your genes.

I used to have a friend who was a biology professor. He had about a dozen rattlesnakes in glass terrariums in he guest bedroom. It was a little disconcerting sleeping in there.
