Crab cakes (that actually are mostly comprised of crab rather than "filler") and fresh asparagus!
Brian T - Posted - 04/24/2020: 16:50:53
Bunch of 16-20 prawns done up like I have not yet decided.
Handfuls of little pan potato-fries. Salad thing, I guess.
I bought a little deep fryer. Hope to get moving on a snootful of crab rangoons.

Last night loaded, tonight stuffed! LOL!
I went out & foraged a fresh loaf of European dark rye bread, corned beef & Swiss cheese.
The cheapest sauerkraut (in the biggest biggest jar) was made in Poland. I figure they know their Krauts!
I have all the stuff to make Russian dressing instead of wimping out & using Thousand Islands (even if I'm from there). Cooked in the cast iron. Ruuueeeebeeeeeennnnn. Bring your love to town.

- TIME
- 10 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
- 1 cup purchased or homemade mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup ketchup-style chili sauce or ketchup
- 4 teaspoons bottled (regular; not packed in beet juice) horseradish, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce, preferably Frank's Red Hot Sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika
- Fine sea salt
- Horseradish in beet juice? Yuck!
the recipe I use for Russian is identical sans the last 3 ingredients and it is delicious. Especially good on a reuben or a rachel.

Crispy fried pork chops and stewed collard greens, plum and almond tart for dessert.
Brian T - Posted - 04/25/2020: 17:54:20
Prawns. That bag was 400g, close to 14 oz. 16-20, I guess I had 20 for sure. $13.99, my grocery bill says.
I cooked, peeled and ate them all with peanut soy sauce and faker seafood sauce (Australian trick.)
Boiled in lime water and cooled in a basket. Heidi-cat got a few clean chunks.
If I find salsa in the back of the fridge, gonna be a big mess of lime chicken with baked potatoes.
It spits like hello in the pan, a spatter screen is just for looks.

I learned about acorn squash in my late teens. Chop one in half & scoop out the seeds.
Put a gob not a knob of butter & a splash of maple syrup in there,
Salt & pepper. That's it. Eat it right out of it's shell.

Like Hallowe'en pumpkin, roasted on a sheet as slabs =
Score deeply. rub with butter, heavy brown sugar and heavy cinnamon. Bake at 350F. Eat it up.
THERE WAS SALSA!!!!!
Thawed chicken.
Goop. Make lots and lots of it, I double+ this.
1/2C salsa, as hot as you need.
1/4C Dijon mustard the cooking will dumb it down.
1 tbsp lime juice NO MORE or it's too sour to eat.
Marinate chicken for 30+ minutes.
Fry in olive oil, it spatters all over your whole kitchen. Not even 2 spatter screens is enough.
White wine to loosen the pan, add all the marinade dregs and cook well.
Plate chicken and pour goop over.

Scrounging around the fridge and pantry tonight I'm finding some chicken tenders, a big onion, two bell peppers, and a bag of carrots. A half bag of rice. Hmm, that is beginning to sound like a stir fry. It won't be worth a photo but I'll bet that it tastes pretty good.

Dumped a pound of Great Northern beans in a bowl to soak last night then with a lot of chopping this morning, onions, carrots, ham steaks, etc.. and some spices (don't ask what, depended on what was in the cabinet) it all went into the slow cooker and we went outside to spend the day on yard and garden chores.
Bean and ham soup was great tonight.

I went up to the Keag Store a couple of days ago and brought home a large crabmeat roll and a pint of haddock chowder.
Ate the roll as soon as I got home and saved the chowder for tonight.
They do it so right,there!
I get this pair once a week.25 minute drive worth every mile.

Chicken-garlic tortellini in Alfredo sauce tonight. Lots of it.
Fried baked potato with some kinds of pungent salt (mushroom, maybe?) and butter.
Must make up pasta dough = I have custom-made tortelli molds (3" x 3/4") in maple wood and need to do a crab version
in a cream cheese sauce. Three per person is a lot of pasta.
Jonty: That does it = gotta get down the back roads for rocks. Time I had a big back yard fire pit.
We have a lot of sedimentary rock that faults in oblong but flat pieces, great for a 6' ring like yours.
I'll fill maybe 8-12" with sand to elevate the fire a little.

Too late but that is a good idea, will do next time. It turned out pretty dang good anyway.

We have a beck (stream) running the other side of the hedge in the photos, lots of great stones. When we moved into the house 6 years back, I hadn't got around to assembling the kids beds but I had been down in the neck throwing rocks up and dug my fire pit

Bangers and mash tonight. My boy wanted to cook on the fire pit but the black skies looked like it was going to rain heavily so we moved things into the greenhouse so as not to disappoint him. I can safely say they were the best cooked sausages in the world.

I've been feeling so left out as the entire world seemingly is baking sourdough bread and I've never baked anything in my life. BUT! I walked a neighbor lady's dog the other night when she was feeling poorly and today she gifted me a beautiful fresh baked loaf of rustic sourdough like something from on the cover of a gourmet magazine! So tonight is lentil soup with hot Italian sausage and big chunk of artisan bread.

That's a happy lad there Jonty! Nothing wrong with learning to cook when you're a kid!
My scout leaders used to drool over some of my concoctions I cooked up on camping trips!

It's great to give them free reign to learn for themselves - that said, the 'beetroot nuggets' my daughter made (with 11 spices) .... well I hope I never experience them again!

You only stick your finger in molten wax on purpose once!

Some sort of beefy thing. I can't afford seafood every night.
I wonder how fast I can thaw out a package of liver and whip up some bacon and onions?
The word "lasagna" keeps creeping into my mind for later this week.

Had to look up "tagine." Learned something new.
We've been going low-carb. I've lost a little over 10 lbs. so far. I've had fun experimenting with new recipes. A couple have been real flops. But the best ones have been the gumbo-laya, the chicken tortilla soup (without tortillas), and parmesan encrusted catfish.

You should try a butternut squash taqine, it's very low carb. Over 2 years, my wife has lost over 75lbs on a low carb low far diet. It's amazing to see the creativity that goes into some of the diet recipes.

Kids cooking. They only need the confidence to stand up to the fire.
That goes a very long way on my track to have everyone skilled.
