Jonty, Pasties here are served with gravy or ketchup. I’m a ketchup guy, unless I know who made the gravy. Had one the other day for dinner. Hadn’t had one for a while and it hit the spot!!! Also burned the $hip out of my mouth, but worth it !!! Washed it down with some Guinness, although I think I got some bad ones( canned with the nitro ball inside). Just didn’t taste right, but cooled the burn!!!

Ketchup and gravy!!!! We eat ours just as the Lord intended - with a view.  I used to,spend 3 weeks a year in Cornwall for longer than I care to remember, I've only ever eaten them as a hand held meal, naked and unadulterated (the pasty that is).

I dated a girl from 'da U.P. back in the 80's. When she was asked what it was like living up there, she said it was 9 months of winter, and 3 months of bad sledding.

Potato pancakes: innards from loaded potato skins a few nights ago, bread crumbs, eggs, scallions, onion, and garlic. Pastrami with mustard served alongside.

Terry is making long weekend Eggs Benedict tomorrow. She makes a latke for the bottom & I'm on assembly.

It goes .. potato pancake, Swiss cheese, bacon, poached egg, bearnaise sauce. scissored up fresh chives & pepper.

Tonight it's steaks, green beans & baked potatoes. Basic but good!

Day before Easter dinner: a turducken that I bought fully assembled but raw some time ago. We smoked it with some roasted asparagus with garlic butter crumbs on the side. Purchased cupcakes for dessert.

Easter Saturday dinner with the daughter's family. The Mrs. cooked: French onion soup, prime rib roast (sliced/hacked to pieces by moi), roast potatoes, green beans with almonds, peas, carrots, gravy, peach pie - washed down with Speck Brothers - Family Tree "The Goat Lady" Chardonay from Niagara, Ontario (it was quite good!). Want water? Ours had lemons in it. They also had shrimp (I don't like seafood) as a pre-dinner appetizer before we sat down to dinner.

Easter Dinner with most of the family.  Mix of vegan, vegetarian, and the traditional stuff.  The vegan surprise was the vegan deviled eggs- not bad.  That said, I ate a lot of ham and hash brown casserole, with carrot dish and green bean dish.  Paired with a French Rose' and an American gewurstraminer choice.

Exhausted like I never slept a wink last night. Dozed all day to 5PM.

Woke up wondering how to cook a meat rabbit, fully prepared and oven ready.
I have 2 of them somewhere down in the freezer.
Wine-braised for 3 hrs with some sort of a creamy mushroom sauce?

What a spread Brad - looks wonderful. What does a vegan egg comprise of? And also, in the photo with the ham, what's the other dish? It looks intriguing and I have no idea what it is ?

IN with the real ham is fake ham.  the vegan eggs, I will have to check. I heard the conversation but was busy eating.  The sauce on that table was a milk, cream, butter parsley sauce, flavored by putting an onion studded all over with whole cloves in with the milk as it heated up to about 190*F +/-.

Three days of eating leftover ham and the real deviled eggs. But last night I cut the flowers from a cauliflower, olive oiled them, heavily dusted with Pioneer Woman’s “Everyday” seasoning, dumped a bunch of small capers on then toasted at 425+F.
Still enough sliced ham for a few sandwiches. Brad

slammer - Posted - 04/20/2022:  05:36:04

So far since Easter it’s been leftover ham and scrambled eggs in tortillas, ham sandwiches, cheater ham Cuban sandwich, ham and red eye gravy over cheesy grits, and I think today will be the last ham sandwich for lunch to use the last of it.
Oh , and the bone is getting used for soup!!!
I was really hungry for ham and looked back to see when we had it last and it was Easter 2021. After eating all the leftovers, I know why we only cook one once a year!!!
Anyone else had enough leftover ham already?

Yep, the bone is going toward a bean or lentil soup!

I think Easter is the only time we buy a big ham.   We buy a lot of ham for sandwiches throughout the year.  I prefer to get "off the bone" ham cut a bit thick.

Ol Slammer made one of his best yet homemade pizzas for dinner tonight!!!
Everything was homemade except the cheese. Super thin crust with a crispy edge and good homemade spicy Italian fennel sausage. Cheese was whole milk mozzarella pizza cheese from Wisconsin. The crust recipe is my son’s who is a pizza aficionado!!! Only thing I wish,is that I had his thick steel plate that he has in his oven for the best crust texture!!! Thin crust sausage and onion is our favorite!!!

Speaking of pizzas. Anyone try one these or buy one. The 500.00 +/- version seems fairly versatile as well. The legs fold up I believe and they have carry bags for them. Brad

Road trip to New York to visit my daughter and her family and stopped Wednesday night just outside of Cleveland ( one of my favorite foody cities) and we were tired and found a place on Yelp for take out sushi that got great reviews. Thanks again Yelpers!!!

Great variety of some of the freshest and best tasting sushi we’ve ever had from a small mom and pop place. You could tell they truly enjoy making fine food and were super friendly!!! We had a nice variety of sushi, sashimi and Takoyaki along with some miso soup. So friendly and nice , there was even a complimentary sushi roll we didn’t order as a thank you for being a 1st time customer with a nice little hand written note.

They will be getting another great Yelp review from this Yelper!!!

My boy had a friend over to stay last night, we thought keep it simple and all kids like burgers…. Simple it wasn’t - I picked up the wrong pack of burgers in the store (2 not 4) so had to defrost some minced beef and make up the difference. 5 x burgers, 5 x different toppings and fillings. I added some very fine dice chorizo to my patty - that works really well. My wife had hers in a ‘bun’ made of 2 x grilled portabbello mushrooms.

More of yesterday's small "Combo" pizza from the Keag Store over there on the back road to Rockland.
Fun drive on a very twisty 2 lane "Tween the villages" road, newly paved a couple of years ago.
