Had one of the best pub Sunday lunches I have had in years today. Roast pork with all the trimmings, it was superb. Only shame was i had a 200 mile drive home afterwards so I couldn’t wash it down with a few pints.

Enough cinnamon pork for 4 meals. Gave up on the pork schnitzel idea.
Excellent result and second go'round tonight.
Used 2 of my three woks and a pot for brown basmati rice.
Have you people looked at the prices of simple 14" woks these days?
Gas ring, spoon, ladle, lid spider and tempura rack. Big money in this day and time.
I scored a 25 lb box of field ripened Roma tomatoes for $20.00.
Just little fellas, figure they will dry cut in halves.
Super strong taste to soak and add as tomato for anything, pizza included.

French-style potato salad with soft-boiled eggs, green beans, and hot-smoked salmon. I’m lazy and like my all-in-one meals. This one went down very well.
The recipe called for six minute eggs, but I was a little nervous about peeling them that soft, so I gave them an extra minute. Turns out they’re easier to peel than hard-boiled. The yolks weren’t completely liquid, but still blended nicely with the vinaigrette.
Brian T - Posted - 09/01/2020: 11:03:44
Remsleep: I vote for the smoked fish. Had some "drive-by company" stopped in with the tomatoes and a sack of vac-packed smoked trout fillet pieces. Maybe 1" thick, palm of your hand size.
All into the freezer except one piece. Fresh peaches and plums and new jams and jellies and salsa. Those folks aim to please.
I sat on a stool in my kitchen, Philly cream cheese, Triscuit crackers and one slab of trout and happily ate the whole thing! What a supper.

I used to make that, 2 big pyrex dishes, for my kids. Chill and cut up, bag and freeze, after school snacks reheated from frozen before I got home from work.
Tonight is tortellini and some shell pasta, various cheeses with my meaty sauce.
Cold, cold rain all dang night and day maybe frost in the forecast.
Snow predicted for the east slope, all the way south and across the US border.
Tuna time for Heidi-cat and I'm down a quart.

Hey, what about breakfast?
I usually eat very little for breakfast, but yesterday was an exception.
Hearty homemade bread, homemade tomato jam, egg, and quick fried prosciutto (I actually used some shoulder meat from an Italian deli).

Got the call to come over for homemade sloppy joes and for dessert the 5th dvd in the Burns Country Music Series.

Dammit Steve!!!! Sloppy Joes of any kind are me favorite, and I didn’t get no call !!!
Ever since I was a kid they were my favorites.. Mom would ask what special meal I wanted for my Birthday and I’d say....Sloppy joes and green jello with whipped cream.
That’s is still my Birthday traditional meal!!! Never disappointed with a sloppy joe!!!
Slammer!!!
Brian T - Posted - 09/07/2020: 18:04:03
My birthday supper is as many scallops as I can eat (and usually pay for) with garlic & butter.
Lemon poppy seed bundt cake and sour lemon icing. Since 6 dozen candles is no longer enough and they set off the smoke alarm, we just pretend.
Supper tonight is DF battered calamari rings, even if I have to eat at the stove to get the cook time right. Caesar salad with my dressing.
Will ring and boil the rest of the tubes for cold, marinated calamari soaked in white wine, olive oil and lots of herbs & garlic for 24+ hrs.

I've never had a sloppy joe, I really do like the look,of them but have never .seen them on a menu. I must get round to making them at home some day.

The software eats quotes. Moronic.
I don't think you ever will. Sloppy Joes are just fine home cookin.'
I have other preferences but I'd never turn one down.

You'll see them in diners around here. Good eatin', but it's basically bolognese on a bun, not that there's anything wrong with that. I like a little heat in mine.

Liz's Sloppy Joe recipe:
Note: I can't find the printed recipe with actual amounts, but here's how I make it. You can adjust as you wish.
Cook together in a little olive oil until soft:
Diced prosciutto
1 small minced onion
Minced garlic (3-4 cloves)
Dried oregano
Add a pound or so of ground beef and cook till no longer pink
Add a small can (around 8 oz.) of tomato sauce or hot enchilada sauce if you like it spicy, about 1/2 cup ketchup, a couple tablespoons balsamic vinegar, and a good handful of grated Parmesan cheese. Cook till thick and homogeneous.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Split and toast some bulkie rolls, top with meat mixture and a couple slices of Provolone cheese, and stick under the broiler until the cheese melts. Serve with lots of napkins.

Bushell's Original Baked Beans.
+1/4 lb fine dice bacon, fried
+1 tsp each garlic powder, soya sauce, Worcestershire sauce.
If the weather is bad, 1/2 a tennis ball onion, very fine dice. Sweat in the bacon fat.
Stir everything into the pot and bubble.
Make toast and slather with CheezWhiz.
I know it's an Esso oil byproduct but I don't care anymore.
Dump all the beans on the toast.
Sit.
Eat in peace.

Another application of my "poor man's sous vide" chicken thighs:
Put them in the bag with yogurt, za'atar, cumin, S&P, lemon juice. Cook them for 90 minutes at 165*. Take them out of the bag, leaving most of the marinade, put them on a skewer, spray them with oil, and put them on a hot griddle until they get some marks.
Put on warmed pita with tahini sauce, tzatziki, quick pickled onions and Fresno peppers.
SWMBO doesn't eat much, but she finished this.

The lid was still on the bean can and the big jar of marinated calamari was in the front of the fridge.
In desperate need of a fishy thing to eat. Salad bowl of rings. Pig.

Bloody Mary Soup for lunch. Simple and quick. Campbell's Tomato Soup, 3/4 can of milk. Add Worcestershire Sauce, celery salt, and some Tabasco or other hot sauce, whisk well and heat. Add fresh ground pepper when done, and some shredded cheese if you like. Not the pre-packaged stuff, make America grate again. (I like sharp Vermont cheddar)

Hi REM: I keep forgetting. Sorry.
The print out of the recipe is lying on this desk, right in front of me.
I'm OK. Another unopened bag of frozen squid tubes in the freezer for that.
I got the marinated thing in my head. Put a big jar of them together with no more thought.

Sorry, been gone for a while taking care of my parents again. My mother and my wife were out for a walk and my Mom biffed it and did a face plant on the road. Hand dislocated off the wrist at least 2 inches with multiple fractures of the wrist and hand, teeth nocked out, gravel in chin and teeth through bottom lip, not to mention two black eyes from glasses getting smashed, oh, and a broken nose!!! This all happened on Labor Day, but she is doing very well and is a tough old bird at 83 !!! Looks like hell right now but amazingly in very little pain...........so she says!!!
Now , about them Sloppy Joes!!!
Growing up we called em BBQ sandwiches and weren’t quite as runny or sloppy as some sloppy joe recipes. They were also more tangy and sweet, than savory and not super sloppy like some people like em. Granted, I can eat any kind of sloppy joe as long as they don’t have green pepper or celery in them. Those are my nemesis and don’t belong in sloppy joes!!!! IMO
1 lb. ground beef browned , drained and crumbled very fine.
2 TBSP minced onion or 1 TBSP dried onion flakes
2 TBSP. Brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup. (Heinz)
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp dry mustard
2 tsp white vinager
1 TBSP butter
Mix all above together and simmer for at least 30 minutes.
Pile a good scoop in between a nice bakery fresh sesame hamburger bun and serve with chips and dip, green jello and don’t forget German Chocolate Cake for dessert!!!
That was my traditional birthday meal since I was old enough to ask for it and still is !!!
Slammer!!!

I bought an acorn squash today. We just cut them in half & scoop out the seeds. A big dollop of butter a splash of maple syrup & S & P. They'll roast along with chicken thighs with red curry paste in the oven with a pot of brown basmati rice on the stove. A piece of 70% cacao/sea salt chocolate bar for desert.

Not yet. I'll buy a Hallowe'en pumpkin. Gut it and cut it into slabs.
1" score and rub with butter, lots of brown sugar then cinnamon & nutmeg.
Bake on a sheet at 375F for 40(?) minutes or more. Kid-tested and kid-approved.
Fry up some bacon and refry some bake potato.
