An opportunity that doesn't come around very often- a banjo workshop with Eddie Adcock. He's playing a goodtime with a sponge stuffed between the co-rod and the head- and still sounds like Eddie Adcock.

Pickers David Atwood, (Eddie), Scott Street, Becky Taylor...my chair is hidden off to the left.

Kenny- Cool! I'm glad people are seeing them, I'm just worried about the file sizes. Over 39,300 views so far, and festival season is just getting started.

Here are some images from the show last night at the Old Rock School House in Valdese NC. This show featured two of our very own Hangout members, John Bactchelor (RB3Killer), with Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, and Wayne Sowers (goastdancer), with the Windriders. They both did a great job. I may post more as I get time.

John, doing a fiddle and banjo tune with Micheal.

John, mashing it with Jesse Brock on mandolin. Drive defined!

John, even took a little time to smile. Folks, he is having the time of his life!

Micheal came out and did a tune with Waynes group.

Wayne, pounding it out!

It was a pleasure to meet these two Hangout members, fine pickers and nice guys.

Yeah, not too many people use a $50,000 banjo as their "cheaper one".

With all these great photos I'm ashamed to post mine, but I'll do it anyway This photo reminds me of a story:

This one was taken some days before this Christmas, in a place called "La Ratera" Brewery, in Milano. Me and some fellow pickers were attending a Bluegrass Stuff concert. Since, as you surely know, bluegrass is not much popular in Italy, and we never have many attendance for concerts. So we tought "Well, there is no need to reserve the places, so let's just go earlier, and get some good seats".
We arrived more than one hour earlier. We entered and the "Stuff" were rehersing. We came to know that there was NO PLACE left, that all places were reserved! After eating something in the place (the place was full of people, so it was pretty hard to get some bread and ham too ) we tought about what we could do.
Without any better idea, we stood on our feet for the whole concert, grabbing a chair when possible, and giving it back to the owner as soon as he found out .
Anyway I had my camera (as usual) so I enjoyed the concert later sitting in my armchair .
We actually had a little jam session after the concert....it started at around 1.00 AM, and ended about one hour later. Then my father had to drove 3 more hours to get home....but....when you love bluegrass as much as I do...
Matt.

This year's acts included these to name a few...James KIng Band, Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz, Seldom Scene, The Grascals, Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, Michael Cleveland and Audie Blaylock and the Flamekeepers, John Starling and Carolina Star, IIIrd Tyme Out, and Asheville's own Iron Station to the mainstage. I only attended J.D. Crowe's workshop on Saturday and the concerts on Saturday....but here's some pics of the festivities....enjoy! BTW, enjoyed meeting some fellow pickers and BHO'ers.

If you haven't been to this festival I urge you to go next year...plenty of rooms to jam in, great sound, great acts, and in the mountains of N.C.

my hand is out of tune...hold on just a second!

If you look close at I think the second picture, you can see two white plastic things hooked onto the tension hooks...What an enginious (?) idea to put extra thumb picks there!!! I'm gonna try that!

Carteru93 sent a pic of Earl playing guitar. I've never seen Earl play guitar with the capo below the 5th fret. He plays YOU ARE MY FLOWER at the 7th and I think JIMMIE BROWN THE NEWSBOY as well.

Jim Yates - Posted - 05/16/2007:  15:24:49

I just read the Earl On Guitar thread and if you click on the Earl and Mother Maybelle pick on youtube, you can see Earl playing with no capo backing up Maybelle's Autoharp.

Matteo - Posted - 05/16/2007:  15:25:45

In the early years Earl played Jimmy Brown in A, so he capoed at 9th fret! I love to (try and) play those songs on the guitar!

I'd like to know more about the banjo that Crowe is playing in those 1975 photos. It looks like an RB-4. Anyone got the story on it? Original pre-war RB-4? If so where is it now?

Here are some pictures of Jim Mills in the hallway of Moncton High School checking out my brand new Huber Jim Mills banjo after a concert on May 19, 2007. The banjo is only 3 days old. Jim said he thought it sounded better than his did "out of the box."

What a great pleasure it was to meet Jim Mills. A true gentleman.
