Wow what a looker!
Actually Roni is pretty good looking now, especially for her age. I saw here at a show recently and she said she had here eye and her teeth fixed. She put on a great show and talked about the Hee-Haw days. She isn't the greatest banjo player in the world but it was one of the most entertaining shows I have ever seen.
No matter what level or how bad a picker is, they will have something you can learn from them.

Yep, I served breakfast (actually just coffee) to Roni last year at IBMA's Fan Feast, and she sure looks better than she did way back when. Dean, your pics are so f....ing awesome!

Couldn't get these pictures to work, so I'm deleting them. I'll leave the website link, though, and you can just scroll down on that page and see the banjo one.
Obviously, not a real banjo player. It's from a Photoshop contest, which can be viewed here

Not my pictures...but fun ones found in a box of country music snapshots sold on eBay. They were taken at Mockingbird Hill Park near Anderson Indiana in the fall of 1960 (photo finisher dated Nov 1960). Herb Hooven, Paul (Humphries) Williams, JD Crowe, and Jimmy Martin (bass unknown). I'm not sure when Crowe got 'the banger'...but I'm sure 'flatthead' will be able to tell us if this is it.
As 'borderbull' says...there's alot of music in these photos...

I got this shot at the Hardly Stictly Bluegrass event in San Francisco last weekend. Tom was playing banjo for Hazel Dickens. He told me that he's thinking about recording a CD with his 2-finger style. I told him, "I hope so!" ![]()

Here's one of Jim Mills and Kentucky Thunder. I don't remember the mandolin player's name ![]()

Now, here's my SAD story ![]()
I took tons of digital pictures of all the banjo players that weekend...and there were a lot of them. But when I got home, my card reader corrupted my flash card. The few pictures that I have left are because I took my card to a data recovery service. This one would have been great, except that this thumbnail is all that was recovered:

Let's keep it going, it has become my favorite post, I hope to have a few more to add soon Sorry about your flash card dsheilds, I would be sick too.
Here is a link that John Lawless has on the Bluegrass Blog. It will take you to the Mandolin Cafe, there is a bunch of vintage pictures of many of our Bluegrass Hero's......it is a worth a look. Good stuff.

We've had some pictures of him up recently, but I was fortunate enough to meet one of my banjo heros earlier today, at the National Folk Festival in Richmond.
Tom Adams!!
The neck of Tom's old GF-100W Gold Star, I heard, was made by Frank Neat. Here it is.

Ron Block was an instructor this year. He spent a good deal of time talking about his practice techniques. All I can say is, Ron is a very intense and disciplined musician. He has a solo CD coming out next year. You can bet that I'll be early in line to get one!
