The first time I saw the Country Gentlemen live, Doyle was playing banjo. He played very well and the group was great.
Thanks for the photo Terry.

If "High School Musical" was based in Harlan, Kentucky, it might look like Kody Norris, Tom Isaacs & The Watauga Mountain Boys. Kind of a Clinch Mountain cover band. Lots of fun.

Here are three from Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco last October. I took these with my old pocket digital camera. No great photography here, just great pickers.
I'm pretty sure the fellow above is Earl.
Allison Brown. After hearing her play, I no longer feel bad about being a "pinky planter."

Thanks a lot Bongshang - the picture of Earl turned out great, I thought. When you get to take pictures of banjo players on stage on a sunny day in Golden Gate Park (San Francisco), it's hard to take a bad picture!

Steve Dean got the Celebrity that I had at SPBGMA Just a couple of weeks after when we played a gig at the Convention Ctr. in Louisville, Ky. back at the end of Feb. and Dean was there. He bought a Buck Creek from me at the Osborne Bros. Fest for a friend of his.

Michael I have made a couple of necks for Allen but have cut down several he likes them small about every banjo he gets he gets me to cut the neck down to his size or as close as I can some of them due to truss rod depth will not allow the neck to thin quite as much as others.

Did I mention it was really hot?
Someone claimed to have measured the temperature in the asphalt-paved seating
area at 109 degrees, which combined with the extremely high humidity created
a "heat index" of at least 115. I Don't know how accurate those figures are, but
it sure felt that hot. It tested my "sit-in-the-front-row-so-you-can-watch-them-pick"
philosophy, but I stuck it out for seven hours, until the violent thunder/hail/lightning
storm blew through around dinnertime.

I believe it - the cold drinks and ice cream vendors were doing a booming business yesterday.
I lost track of how many water bottles I went through.
After the Nothin' Fancy set I chatted briefly with Mike Andes over in the shake-and-howdy tent.
I thought they put on a good show - not noticably different from their usual performances - but
Mike apologized for his lack of energy on stage, saying that he was trying really hard to give it
everything he had, but that he felt like he was playing in slow motion due to the heat. No apology
was necessary of course - I mean, I barely had enough energy to get out of my seat and over to
the tent. I don't know how you pros do it, especially when, like the Steep Canyon Ranger bassist
seen above, you're wearing a suit and tie!

Tom Adams with Seneca Rocks

As reported on Tom's website and the Bluegrass Blog, and discussed in this Hangout thread banjohangout.org/forum/topic.a..._ID=92500 , yesterday's show was Tom's
last public performance on the banjo, at least for the forseeable future. He handled it with his
usual grace and quiet humor.

He does that. Just rolls with thumb and index though. His middle finger is still there, just doesn't do what he wants it to, but he can use it on an upward strum, etc. Most people couldn't tell he was using just two.
