'd put a tone ring in itbut it had started out as a 150,no binding on peghead.

This gets right to the heart of why this topic was started. How many people would have seen this picture of Bobby if Hugh hadn't been willing and able to share it? I am so thankful to be able to see him doing what he loved to do.

Absolutely wonderful.

Hello-

Thought I would share this with you. Earl is indeed playing a Gibson Earl Scruggs Special in the pictures above. I spoke to Earl's road manager. With all the new airline regulations and many unknowns Earl decided to leave his Granada at home. This was a last minute decision as he walked out the door to catch his flight for his Salt Lake City concert. He just decided to play it safe and use the Special. Earl likes this banjo much and plays it at home. As many of you seen and heard it is a great banjo. He of course used this banjo in his Colorado concerts also. Hope this helps clear up the mystery.

Reminds me of when (many years ago) Doc Watson noted he was playing a Gallagher on the road rather than his old D-21 because if it was damaged "Mr. Gallagher can build me another one." Not true of the Martin of course.

Al Batten and a bunch of hangouters at Bass Mtn. in May
seated is Forrest and Saint Dick. Standing is PickNGrin

He's not holding his banjo in this one, but it's me and the one and only Raymond Fairchild:
I think he was trying to make me feel good after placing 9th out of 8 pickers in his banjo picking contest.

Tom Adams back when he joined the JMB. This was a studio shot which was to be included on the back on the "Favorites" LP, but all the shots turned out too dark so it was decided to not use any of them.

Of course this is my favorite banjo picker with my favorite mandolin picker.

No matter what level or how bad a picker is, they will have something you can learn from them.

Now I'm confused - I saw Tom Adams at Gettysburg, playing what I thought was 3 finger style. Am I wrong? I think he was playing with Seneca Rocks. I know he had a problem in his hand, but thought he was now playing again.

If I'm not mistaken, Tom has learned to pick two finger style, after his problem with focal distonia (sp?) in his middle finger. He always blew me away with 3 fingers, I'm sure he does just fine two finger style!

I've seen Tom three times this year with Seneca Rocks - before that I hadn't seen him since he was Rhonda Vincent. The first time back in May I initially thought he was three-finger picking as well, which confused me since I had heard that his focal dystonia had not been cured. But he was indeed playing a two-finger style - guess that just shows how good he is.

[edited to make that "since he was with Rhonda Vincent". ]
