Dean...Man, I congratulate you on some absolutely great work with a camera. I am in awe...for sure.
The Nashcamp 05 picture is with my 1934 Granada...
Bill Evans is playing a new Mahogany engraved Chief...I'm wondering what Ned is playing...doesn't that look just like a Gibson...Granada? I thought he played Huber.
Please keep this thread going...The picture of Jimmy Mills has a great feel...man, if I could do things like that with a camera, that's all I would ever want to do....that and play the piano.
Carry on...

I was hoping that was THE Granada in Sonny's picture. Good to see him with a banjo in his hands. And Sonny, if I could play banjo like you, I'd give you my camera!

Forgive the size of this one. I'm not sure how to resize. This is Julie Elkins and John Lowell of Kane's River at Blueberry Bluegrass Festival.
By the way, if you have never witnessed the infamous "stick-finger" style of banjo picking from Julie, you are missing a definate treat.

Great shot! Dana's playing a set of Sonny's Ugly D's on his Gibson. I've got a set on order, but Greg Rich is gonna purtify them for me first. These photos are awesome!![]()

I've really enjoyed the pictures posted here. Cia is great, but I really like the one of Alison (my favorite so far) that Darcy posted. She is lookin' mighty fine. mm, mm, MMMM. Terry Baucom is also lookin' sharp with Doyle Lawson.

Sorry about the small size of the last photos -- that was my first attempt at posting photographs. These were scanned from old 35mm prints. Any suggestions on how to enlarge them without loss of picture quality would be appreciated.

It is really not that hard, heck I can even do it! I lifted this from another thread:
1) Your pic must reside some where on the web here's a site that will host your pics for free:
photobucket.com/
2) To post pic on here activate img tags from tool bar (insert image)
3) Go to your pic and right click it
4) Left click on PROPERTIES
5) Left click and drag to highlight ADDRESS [URL]
6) When highlighted right click and COPY
7) Left click OK
8) Paste between the img tags img paste here img
9) Click preview to check before posting
10) If it doesn't show in the preview, you have done something wrong, back up and try again!

I am just now checking out this thread. Thanks to all for posting these!
To Dean Hoffmeyer I will say this: In my opinion many of your pics (notably Jim Mills) have crossed the line between photography and art. They not only capture the visual subject in a beautiful and poetic manner, but a whole range of human feeling too. I checked out your website... Wow! I am speechless. You are a gifted artist.

Alvin played "Banjo Special" from the recent Stelling CD in Charlottesville on Saturday Feb. 4, 2006. Although Alvin retired a couple years ago, you can still hear that he spent a lot of time around Don Reno. And that old Stelling Staghorn (with a new Pass rim) he plays is a hoss.

Jason Davis is a really nice local fellow who can pick the tar out of a banjo! He toured for 9 months with Kenny & Amanda Smith, 6 months with BlueRidge, now with Grasstowne. He's sitting in the back of his pickup where we met up in Colonial Heights, VA. This is his 2003 Lancaster which he used on Michelle Nixon's latest CD, as well as two cuts on Huber's "Cuppa 'Jo" recording. A marvelous Huber!

Here are my pics of Brian Leaver, banjo picker with the Wildwood Valley Boys. They put on a great show last night at Rudy's in Anderson SC. I had never seen Brian pick before, he is very good and blended well with the group. He was playing an Arthur Hatfield Buckcreek. The lighting was REAL bad, but you do the best you can! Shot in RAW at 3200 ISO resized and resampled for display here.

How do you guys insert a picture in your post like that??
-Jason
DHoffmeyer - Posted - 02/12/2006: 15:36:40
2 keys to remember- get your picture on an internet server, then post the web location with the img html tags in front and back:
A lot of people use photobucket.com to host their own images. Any photo that is about 7-10 inches wide at 72 dpi is a good size, and I try to compress my files to about 60 kb or less. For concerns about color fidelity, select sRGB color space for web display.
On an unrelated note, a bout with the flu has kept me away from the J.D. Crowe show here in VA, so I won't be able to post those pics here today.

Were you there Stan? We were at the workshop that day and had 2nd or 3rd row seats for that wonderful performance. I have some more pics from that night that I may post tonight. They are of the same quality. I had an old Sony Mavica back then that saved to floppy discs. Rounder I agree that Joe is an underated picker. I used to love listening to him and Moon Mullins when I lived in Dayton.
