Looks to me like an Oettinger tailpiece on Eddie Adcock's banjo.
Here's another pic. from the BG Boys tour of the UK in 1966...this one was taken at a gig in Coventry....May or early June 1966.

....and in complete contrast, here's a pic. of one of the most prominent banjo players in the UK between 1910 and 1960....this is George Morris who was a dance band player in the 1920's and a well known performer, recording artist and teacher in those days. He played classical/ragtime fingerstyle on the 5 str. banjo, also tenor and plectrum banjo and was a tremendous player. That banjo he has is a Jedson...a UK make. Believe it or not, Marshall Brickman used one on the 1963 album "New Dimensions in Banjo and Bluegrass".

Ronnie, those are amazing photos especially the first one. They should be in an archive or museum preserved for posterity. GREAT.

That old school gym collapsed several years ago. I think admission charge was $1. The footlights were the only illumination that gave the band a ghostly appearance. I remember Lester telling a politically incoorect joke to open the show which I will not post here. A friend ( who now owns my 1928 Little Wonder) brought his camera and took the pictures.

I bought one of those string ties from Earl that night. I have no idea where it is now.
Bill Rogers - Posted - 07/15/2010: 19:39:14
Those ties were a badge for a lot of bluegrass players in those days. You could walk up to someone wearing one somewhere and it was about 4-1 he played bluegrass.

Steve,
He had two banjos that night and would switch around. The one above appeared to be an old Gibson, and the one below was a Yates Ron Stewart model. He still sounded like Ron on either he was playing........the tone was there on both!

I found this photo of guitar master JACK PEARSON (jackpearson.com)...playing his old Buckbee banjo. Lots of folks know Jack for his world-class blues and jazz guitar skills (Allman Brothers Band, ect.)...or even his stellar mandolin playing. But you should hear him frail a banjo...amazing!

josh played at Laylas bluegrass inn in Nashville and let me get up and do a few numbers on his Prewar 3. Best sounding banjo i have ever played. Josh is by far the best five string banjo player going today. He was playing with Kevin Denney and Carl Caldwell with bassman Brian Zahn
