"In the early years Earl played Jimmy Brown in A, so he capoed at 9th fret!"
I don't think so: Lester always sang it in G, until later in their career when he brought it down to F (and recorded it in this key), meaning capo at the 5th fret for Earl. Capoing at the 7th fret is already pretty limiting for a guitar player, let alone at the 9th...

Lots of great bluegrass over the fourth...here are some pics from Red, White and Bluegrass in Morganton, N.C.![]()

Dave Peterson and 1946...featuring Eric Ellis and Ron Shuffler from N.C.
Here's a close-up of Eric Ellis...if you don't know Eric, look out for him playing this summer....He has killer tone and knows how to pick that banjer!!!![]()

Here's one of "The Duke of Drive" Terry Baucom pickin' on that Sullivan Terry Baucom Signature banjer...man, it sounded great! He was pickin' with Kenny and Amanda Smith
Have more pics, but will let others post their pics of the festival as well...there was also a festival in Hickory, N.C. on Saturday and Sunday before the fourth.
my hand is out of tune...hold on just a second!

Man, I'm ashamed to be so far behind in posting these. From May in Amelia, Va.
Justin Jenkins from Blue Moon Rising, playing his Frank Neat banjo.
The Bluegrass Brothers' Robert Dowdy taking some licks with Rhonda Vincent and Mickey Harris.
Is Kenny Ingram still using Showcase 41's? Yep! Kenny proves that you don't really need old stuff to sound good.

The rumor that I've been working on a CD cover recently is true. Don't want to upset anyone by posting it here, because it technically falls outside of my "other players" rule.
Here it is-- WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope it's OK to post a few pictures of local players and BHO members here. These are a few pictures from the Prairie Home Fair Bluegrass Day. This is the second year for this event and it is really taking off! A couple of BHO members are shown below.
BlueGrass Roundup with BHO member Ron Taylor (Ronflatiron) who plays a mean banjo. He's playing a sweet sounding Baldwin Ode that he recently got at this event.
Ronflatiron is on the right here, with Albert Smith on guitar. I think Albert must know every song there is!
This is an interesting and very talented group. Two dads and their daughters playing bluegrass and bluegrass gospel. Dave Weston does some fine picking on the banjo.
This group is named Summit Grass, with Dale Wilkes (BHO member ibapicker) doing a great job with his Staghorn!
This group calls themselves Hot Lix, and Dale (ibapicker) pulled double-duty playing banjo in this group too.
Just had to add this one..... Things were lively to the end.
Thanks to the bands and all that help us make this event happen!
Tom

Dean,
I'm so looking forward to ordering a copy of your CD.
How can anyone resist something called "Trashin' The Classics".
Tyler
DHoffmeyer - Posted - 07/23/2007: 17:12:35
I originally said I wanted to shoot CD covers to help give great music a better face, but I'm finding that much of the problem is in the art direction/ design- so my Trashin' cover pokes fun at some of the non-subtle, overdesigned, fontragious, literal "act out the title" stuff that's out there. Great design goes unnoticed.
I think Erik Anderson does nice work, including his own design, and Jim McGuire's photography has been wonderful for years. Sue Meyer, I think, is a good designer. Would love to work with her sometime.

Dean,
I just noticed that you posted a pic of my buddy John Brunschwyler! Well, actually we only met a couple times at the Athy festival in Ireland, but he's a friend anyway, and a mighty fine picker. And the Patuxent Partners are fun to watch, great pickers and singers and entertainers. German picker, eh?... ![]()

Mmmmm...not quite...if I'm not mistaken, Doyle started out as a banjo player with Jimmy Martin and moved to mandolin when he joined the Ky Mtn Boys after he left Martin (they sort of had a banjo player). But you get the feeling that Doyle left home playing all stringed instruments better than most of us ever will.....
sparky - Posted - 07/31/2007: 23:35:23
Actually, Del did play banjo for Monroe. Jack Cooke was on Guitar, Billy Baker on fiddle. I've got a cassette tape somewhere with that line up. It only lasted 6 weeks or so, Jack quit and Bill Kieth came in on banjo, Del moved over to guitar and vocals.Fortunatly, some of the shows were caught on audio. Del was a great banjo player.
....Mark.
