Banjo in the Bible

Friday, June 3, 2016

This is to great!  I found this today in my personal study from The Message Bible

Psalm 150:1-6 (MSG) - "Hallelujah! Praise God in his holy house of worship, praise him under the open skies; 2  Praise him for his acts of power, praise him for his magnificent greatness; 3  Praise with a blast on the trumpet, praise by strumming soft strings; 4  Praise him with castanets and dance, praise him with banjo and flute; 5  Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum, praise him with fiddles and mandolin. 6  Let every living, breathing creature praise GOD! Hallelujah!"

Got to love it!

All my life I have wanted to learn how to play the banjo. After watching Earl Scruggs belt out "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" and Roy Clark on "Hee Haw" I had a passion to learn how to play. When I was in seminary I purchased a used Savannah 5 string (1985). But it sat in the case because I did not have a teacher or any kind of instruction (this was before Al Gore created the Internet). So I sold it to get some extra money to pay for my wedding. In Spring of 2010 I picked up a cheap Asian bottle cap banjo I played for awhile as I got connected to BHO and learned some basic banjo information. It was not long before I knew I needed something better so I purchased a Gold Tone BG 150 F (February 2011) from Ross Nickerson. I am part of a jam group at my church that meets the 1st, 3rd and 5th (if there is one) Thursday at my church (West Valley Missionary Church...on Wide Hollow Road). We call ourselves "Harwood Harbor". There is about 9 of us in the group. In the words of Rick Riman - "I would rather play the banjo than eat....my friends would rather hear me eat."
