Frosty Morn is the old-time Tune of the Week, 8/24/18. Related to Cold Frosty Morning in some of its melody and chordal movement, here's a medley of the two. The first was learned from the guitar flat-picking of Doc Watson, who I idolize. The second was learned from Miles Krassen's Clawhammer Banjo book. He used Henry Reed's version which he had published previously in his Appalachia Fiddle book. Sawmill tuning, playing on my Doc's Banjo.

Cool! The juxtaposition helps me hear the similarities. I love what you've done with this! :)

Nice medley Janet and beautifully played. The Frosty Morn melody is what the Kruger Brothers use when they play their version of The Cuckoo, which is where I am familiar with it.

Hi Janet,
I know this was posted a while ago, but I just found it and wanted to say thank you. I'm starting to dig into Frosty Morning / Frosty Morn, and your version is where my search has led me. I really love your playing — the feel of it.
It's helping me a lot as I learn the tune and try to work out my own take on it, more or less. Thank you for sharing it!
Berta

Thanks, Berta. I got your email and will get to look at the discussion thread more carefully tomorrow. Which version are you most interested in? Both? I like to learn from the “legends”, so to speak, and try to get to the older source.
