Songs to Learn in 2012

Posted by yopasjim on Wednesday, December 28, 2011

Some people make resolutions....some goals...while others shun any sort of future planning.  Doesn't matter I work best when I have a goal in sight.  This year it is my goal to learn and proficently play the songs on this list.  Some of the songs I "know" - this means I am working on them already, but can not play them proficently.  Here is my color coding:  Green (Brand new to me),  Red (already working on, yet not playing proficently), Blue (know and play proficently - cleanly picked and up to a relative speed)

Banjo Songs to Learn in 2012

  1. Cripple Creek (Scruggs)
  2. Foggy Mountain Breakdown
  3. Sally Goodwin
  4. Fireball Mail
  5. Dueling Banjos
  6. Little Maggie
  7. Shuckin’ the Corn
  8. Eighth of January
  9. Battle Hymn of the Republic
  10. ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
  11. Whiskey Before Breakfast
  12. Happy Day (Tim Hughes)
  13. Red Haired Boy
  14. I Saw The Light (Nickerson)
  15. The Ballad of Jed Clampett
  16. John Henry
  17. Forever
  18. Old Joe Clark
  19. Red River Valley
  20. Mountain Dew

Now that I got this list lit up like a Christmas tree, I have a lot of work to do in 2012.  I guess we will see next year at this time.

Dancing Queen says: Know some of those tunes quite well, but I wish that I
could play the 'BLUE' ones as proficiently as you! Good luck and a very happy
New Year. Lesley

Hi Lesley, thanks for your comments. Unfortunately NONE of those 20 tunes are BLUE...yet. Hopefully by the end of the year many of them will be BLUE - which means by the end of the year I will know them and play they proficiently.

Ok, so that is admirable, and creative. Posting a list and letting us all know so that we can hold you accountable... sweet :) Good luck!

Great list, Pastor Jim. By going through those standards, you'll learn the tools to help you "do your own thing!" I imagine gospel will part of your repertoire, too.
