Banjo at Work

Friday, December 28, 2007

I took a chance and brought my banjo into work last Friday and played Jingle Bells for the various departments.  I had to play three different times to entertain everyone.  On the last day before Christmas, the atmosphere at work is a little more festive, so I like to dress up a little and wear a Christmassy tie.  I also wore a goofy Christmas Hat.  I have had a couple of co-workers thank me for the song over the past couple of days.  That was nice, and a little unexpected.  One guy in shipping asked if I would teach him how to play banjo, but I don't think he was really serious.  We'll see.  I ended up doing an encore in shipping.  Fiddle tunes are rarely heard up here, so I played Cripple Creek for them and it was well rec'd. I started playing clawhammer style banjo in May of 2006. I took lessons from Fritz Schuler in the fall/winter of 2006. Other than that, I've been using Wayne Erbson's Ignoramus book and Ken Perlman's DVD. I enjoy playing and practice every single day....Or.... If you prefer.....I'm a rip-snortin', clawhammer playin', motorcycle ridin', airplane flyin', father of two, grandfather to two, husband of one dulcimer playin', sweet lookin, woman o' mine.
