I've been working on playing and singing a couple g modal tunes. My playing is pretty basic after only 1 1/2 years at it, but I figure ...
A) up north here, there ain't too many that can tell the difference , but people still want to hear that banjo sound and I am still getting better,
B) up north here, not too many people get to hear banjo especially played clawhammer style,
C) Maybe it's closer to some of the old style playing/singing that was going on up in the hills of Virginia and North Carolina anyway.
D) If I couple playing with singing, maybe every note doesn't have to be perfect.
E) I have always liked sharing things with people and sharing traditionaI, historical American music with folks seems like a fun and worthy venture to me.
I can do Wild Bill Jones O.K., (meaning, I have it memorized and I don't trip all over myself too bad trying to sing and play at the same time), but I've been working on Pretty Polly and then a little bit on Red Rockin Chair too. I can sing along with a couple of other simple tunes too, but have been surprised that it is not as easy as it looks. I've never been a singer. Never was in a choir or anything like that. I think it's a whole lot more fun to share a complete song for people, ie, music and words. One of these days I should record myself, but nobody likes their own voice anyway. Who cares, as long as nobody's throwing things at me, let-em suffer. O.K., just kidding, but maybe someone will let me know one way or another one of these days. Still, I'm tryin, and havin' fun at it.
