We had a great trip to the family compound, as we call it. Got some good visiting time in with the sisters and the nieces. I did not bring my banjo, and I regretted it very much. Laine and Mr. argued against it--fast trip, too much to do, etc. etc. and I listened to them. Wrong decision. Oh, there were plenty of banjo-jokes flying around, but no music was played. I finally looked at one of the jokesters and said, a bit more nastily than was really necessary, "what instrument do YOU play?" which I instantly regretted.
I think that my family in general doesn't get the fact that beyond the fact that making banjo music has become a pleasurable hobby for me, it's also become part of who I am. It's part of my personal definition. It's become a necessary part of my life, and I miss it when I cannot play every day. It keeps me calm, and focused, and gives me personal goals and motivation in a way that nothing else does. It's important to me.
So... ever onward. Work's piled up for the next month--landed a listing job for BusinessTN magazine. I've worked for them before, and there's always a nice little byline in it for me, as well. Business is good. Spring is on the way.
