I want to add my thanks to all those who make the Banjo Retreat the highlight of my year. I can't really express how wonderful that event is. Plus, now I can say I sang tenor with Tom Adams. Sonny Osborne, and Bill Emerson!

I had a GREAT time last Friday nite visiting at Nashcamp!!!!! I was really made welcome there. Cindy it was good to meet you and your running a "Class Act" there.
Glad I could be there for the Sonny Osborne theme song. hehehehehehe That was funny!!!!

My birthday doesn't need celebrating, I'm trying to make them go backwards. Not really. After 73 of them, I'm kinda getting used to them.
I thank WNCW for the effort however. It is appreciated greatly. And thank all of you for the recognition..that too is appreciated.
And thank all of you who attended our camp this year. It was good beyond words. The music, and classes, and lessons were all top notch, but just to see old friends was so very special. Thank you again for coming. You are a special group of people...for sure.

I 've been listening to a few cuts from a new Bill Emerson album to be released in early 2011. Title of the album will be Bill Emerson. Eclispe. I know you hear this all the time, but man he plays so clean. It's really good. He used Chief number 36 and he must have a different way to record. It really sounds good. Mixed well, played well. I'll be talking more about it in time. Actually when I find out more. I want to know who the mandolin player is, he can play.
Also, in a few days Bill will be the owner of a new Walnut Chief. He heard Chuck Wallace's Walnut at our banjo camp and bought one..so, not to be outdone Chuck ordered a new Mahogany. He now has a Maple, Walnut, and Mahogany. Plus he bought a left handed Maple for his son.

Rick Stern has four also. And, I think I'm right. Rick has been to all our banjo camps.

I really look forward to that Bill Emerson album coming out. I hadn't listened to alot of his stuff before I met him at camp. He is now one of my absolute favorites. He plays so clean and effortlessly it seems. I hope I can make it to camp again next year to hear him play again.

Man, what a good time. Good memories. Great banjo playing..Bill Emerson, Jens Kruger, Kristin, Ned, Tony, and all of you. Jens Kruger is truly a genius, (He played one really slow tune that had everyone's attention) Bill emerson has to be the cleanest of all time, Kristin never makes mistakes, Ned keeps getting funnier and better, Tony Trishka plays everything so good, and is a great person. And, all are great teachers. Thank you one more time for coming.

That "Slow Tune" you are talking about is, according to Jens, called "Beautiful Nothing." In my life I've seen and heard everything connected to a banjo that one can imagine, from really bad to great beyond words. Earl in 1953 was beyond mere words. It literally frightened me to know how far I had to go to even be in the same room. Now, nearly 60 years later, to see and hear Jens Kruger is a rare gift to us all (Like Earl), one that will pass this way once. He plays every style to perfection. Unbelievable. And such a pleasure to see him do this so effortlessly.
Every player (teacher) this year was in their best form. Such a great time.

They were all superb this year but when Jens finished Beautiful Nothing and there was pin dropping silence you broke it perfectly .The next two world class teachers/players were still absorbing what Jens had done and you said " I wouldn't want to be either one of and if I was I wouldnt want to be the other one".
I am such a lucky guy to get to participate in these events.

A very good friend of nearly 60 yrs, Little Jimmy Dickens of Grand Ole Opry fame, will be 90 yrs old December 19. And he's still performing at the Opry. Absolutely amazing.
My brother was 79 December 7, (and still performing) and my Mother will be 101 December 29 and still with us.

Yea Sonny hope I am able to stay active as I get older. Just say Bobby at the Myrtle Beach, SC annual bluegrass festival. He was under the weather with his voice a little but he and the band put on a wonderful show.

Haven't been around much lately, but was surprised to see the Chief thread on page 4...so here's a bump.
My wife and I are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first grand babies (twin girls)....31 weeks along and trying to come out early.
Still need a few more weeks to develop and strengthen their lungs before the big day.

Sounds like some great news arriving soon.We were on the early arrival watch 22 years ago.The Dr.s were hoping just to get to 28 weeks.Our daughter got used to the surroundings and stayed 41 weeks instead.They had to pull her out ; )
Modern medicine in high risk is so amazing. I am sure all we will be fine ... Grandpa.
