Sonny,
Sounds like maybe I better bring it down to camp.
I just delayed the other conflict. Guess I got my priorities messed up for a minute.
Best-Jay

Hey Chief!

Great series for the Celtics and Rondo. Hope he's not hurt too bad. Should get some rest now before the finals. Sure was a physical series.

Congrats to the Celts fans.

Lakers in six...

TheChief - Posted - 05/31/2010:  07:54:54

Well..I'm all Boston. If I could be from someplace else, it would be Boston. If I could live someplace else, it would be near The Commons in Boston. Lakers may win, but then Miami, Cleveland, and Orlando were all supposed to win.
And, Rondo is from Louisville, and played college in Lexington..Bill Monore is from Kentucky..I think that's telling us something. I don't know what, but something.

Happy, SAFE, Memorial day...God bless our country and the troops who keep it safe.

s

I'm from Hyden, Kentucky!!!!! (And proud of that too!!) Boston Kentuicky...that would be the ticket.

Sonny,

The only problem I can see with that line-up is having to wait four months until we can enjoy it. Thanks for putting together another amazing line-up.

I don't want this to sound like I don't have a life, but I have been going to the camp since it's inception and as soon as it is over, big letdown and start counting down to the next year... I send the money to Cindy as soon as she posts she is accepting it to get in for the next one.. got it bad.. love the environment, people and Sonny is a hoot.... good true blooded American.

TheChief - Posted - 06/17/2010:  06:38:29

Kristin Benson is a two time IBMA "banjo player of the year" award winner and a great teacher.

What kind of banjo picture did you post up there Rick ; ) ?
I finally figured out how to change my profile picture and snuck in a picture of me playing this Chief banjo I got a little while back.

If I can make it I probably won't drive with my toys this time. At least not by myself again.
Flying is such a hassle but it's the way I'll go I guess. Great lineup of teachers as always!

TheChief - Posted - 06/23/2010:  06:17:59

Stan I look forward to seeing all of you. Drive, fly, walk, whatever, so long as you all get here safe.
October is coming sooner than we think..along with my 73rd birthday. YIKES!!!

Mr Chief,
Could you tell me what was the first recordings
you made after you got the Granada?I was told
it was the Bluegrass Collections.
Thanks
Roy

Woolpersteve - Posted - 06/25/2010:  04:33:57

Sonny,
Five in the first round-think that helps recruiting?
Steve
PS for the rest , its a Kentucky thing, sorry.

TheChief - Posted - 06/26/2010:  06:45:30

The first recordings I made with the Granada were in fact Bluegrass Collection. However, the first recordings it was used on after I bought it were done by The Pinnacle Boys with Larry Mathis (The Banjothon guy) playing. I produced that album and just couldn't wait to hear how it sounded on record. It's certainly a great banjo in my opinion.

Sonny and Steve,

Sorry, for the delay. I was gone teaching a class in Wyoming for a couple of weeks. No email. No Internet. Don't have a cell phone. Very peaceful.

The picture on my entries is cribbed from a banjo dealer's website! Back in the day I was a pretty accomplished photographer. But I have not really made the switch to digital. So theft has taken over from talent.

Rick

I've had to stop practicing banjo for a couple of weeks due to tennis elbow.
Played Tammy Swinette yesterday and today; the arm felt good, my playing was a little rusty...but man, did she sound sweet!

Hi all, I own Chief #119. It's maple. I'd love to trade for a mahogany if anyone's having buyers remorse. Let me know. Send me a private message.

Thanks,
Dan

Banjo Stan - Posted - 07/14/2010:  03:15:16

There's no such thing as "buyer's remorse" with a Chief. Only regret that you can't have them all. Good luck, Dan. My Mahog is a special banjo; I'm sure other Chief owners feel the same about theirs.

Woolpersteve - Posted - 07/16/2010:  16:52:07

Stan, Allow me to become the first "ditto banjo head".
Steve

Minnepicker - Posted - 07/17/2010:  17:28:05

I agree, it's a nice banjo that definitely has the sound. I wanted to try a maple and figured I'd go with the best. Just moved into an apartment though and can't have two banjos around. I think the only thing I'd get rid of my Hatfield for is a mahogany chief.

TheChief - Posted - 07/21/2010:  20:43:03

Smart man that Minnepicker.

Hey Sonny, Tribe and y'all,
I just wanted to share with you what was going on with my life lately; after all, I do consider you family.

My first born, Matt is my business partner and band mate and pretty much my best friend; He recently found out that he and his new bride are expecting twin babies! I couldn't be more excited! She is his perfect soul mate. The way they perform together musically is amazing. I'm ready to start teaching them banjo already, but they won't arrive till the end of February.

I'm hoping I can still make it to Nashcamp, but a lot of unanticipated expenses have come my way. I can't wait to be a Grand Pappy!
Blessings to you all,

Pappy

Hey Sonny,

I'm in love with your playing on "Up This Hill and Down". When you play that do you tune your 4th and 2nd strings to a C? I guess what would be referred to as a double C tuning?

thx
T

Woolpersteve - Posted - 07/24/2010:  04:56:45

That is great news Stan! If the twins are boys I am thinking Sonny & Bobby as names .What do you think?

TheChief - Posted - 07/24/2010:  15:51:10

Tony..Tune the banjo to D tuning and then drop the whole thing two steps..You're in D tuning but actually playing in C.

OK?

s

bhrb75 - Posted - 07/24/2010:  16:39:15

Sonny you wouldn't "tole" me that, you made me learn it on my own. Ha ha Hope you're doing well.

B.

Minnepicker - Posted - 07/24/2010:  17:16:08

Did you hear that everyone? The MAN says I'm smart. :-)

Banjov1 - Posted - 07/25/2010:  06:43:12

Hey Sonny, thanks for getting back to me. I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with D tuning. Is normal D tuning (A D F# A D)? So then when you drop it 2 steps you'd be playing (G C E G C)?

thanks again
T
