Late Night Banjo in Charlotte...Again!

Sunday, May 9, 2010

Right in the middle of a run of dates with Gal Friday Band. We just played Whiskey River downtown Charlottte and another late-nighter coming up this week at Buckhead Saloon. The girls KILLED IT! As did all the amazin' musicians I get to be onstage with. And once again I held my own with all the young phenoms! :) Country, classic rock, pure harmonies, and this week we add some bluegrass to the playlist with Rocky Top. Should be another fun night on stage.

(the Banjo Bio...cause the other one is just too long) Bought my first 5 string in Little Rock while I was in the Air Force in 1976. It was perfect timing for me since I was able to spend hours upon hours learning how to play it. I also met a few guys who loved picking and playing and we eventually ended up jamming every Friday night and later touring the festivals across Arkansas. I've been playing banjo longer than I've been married to Sandi (since 1978), and still love just getting together with other musicians to play. I grew up around country/mountain music in TN, lived 10 years in AR and then to NC in 1992. Lots of bluegrass and other musical influences from all those places and look forward always to my next "banjo day." In my day job, I'm an author, speaker, business coach/consultant helping individuals improve their marketing and profits. After hours, I love golf, a fine cigar, and a porch swing with my banjo. Occasionally I even get to hang out with my son and/or daughter (thirty-somethings) who keep me thinking and feeling younger. I'm a huge proponent of personal development and lifelong learning...including learning the banjo or most anything else you'd like to be better at. Past few years after DECIDING to get better at the banjo, just made it my goal to PLAY EVERY DAY, and while I don't play EVERY day, I've certainly played more days and seen the results. Playing with other musicians/bands (The Big Cigar Band) and now solo with a show called ONE MAN BANJO (www.OneManBanjo.com)! Always improving...that's the goal.
