Went to my favorite festival this weekend... the Charm City Folk and Bluegrass Festival in Baltimore. Got to hear some great music and jam with a bunch of friends... some of whom I only get to see once a year.
One of my favorite moments was doing an impromptu jam for our new buddy Seamus Arrizza. His family said he loved music and he seemed to be really enjoying himself. We were trying to give him the full on stereo effect of a bluegrass jam circle... btw that's a four string banjo that he's got in the back of that wheel chair

I'm a long time guitar player recently converted to banjo. I'm playing just about anything I can get my hands on to help me get more comfortable on this instrument. I play with a network of friends who perform as Edgar Allan & the Poe Boys, but I'm happy to play with just about anyone I can. I'm lucky to have a couple good friends in my neighborhood who play bluegrass instruments and I feel very fortunate that there are a number of very talented bluegrass musicians in the Baltimore area. It's pretty easy to pick things up playing with just about anyone around here. Some of my favorite products are... 1) Fingerpicks - Showcase 41s (best pop I've played and fairly comfortable) 2) Thumbpicks - Dunlop Zookies (a lot less scratch than most), BlueChips (JD Version) absolutely no scratch problems, but kind of expensive 3) Straps - the Neotech super and mega strap models (It really makes your banjo feel only half as heavy) 5) Slow Down Software - Transcribe! - great UI and nice audio effects help make learning riffs fairly easy 6) Tone Enhancer - Banjomate Tone Enhancer - from Little Mountain Music. It really adds a noticeably deeper sound to your banjo. Subtle but fuller.
