Got to take my family to the Smoked Country Jam in Loganton Pa this weekend. Lots of family fun, banjos, jamming and clinics topped off with a couple sets from the Hillbilly Gypsies.
Here's a couple shots from the weekend...
New buddy Braiden with Koby and JJ
Koby at the hula hoop tent
Braiden and JJ hoppin a ride on the tractor
JJ and his new buddy Gabe
Banjo clinic with Billy Lee Cox of Remington Ryde and Steve Shelhamer of the Lykens Valley Bluegrass Boys. Both amazing banjo players
I did another clinic with Mark Doncheski (sorry no pix), who went over banjo setup. He did a great job explaining elements of neck adjustment, how the changing weather affects setup, head tightening etc... He brought a couple of banjos and parts to demonstrate. It was a wonderful clinic and to top it off he adjusted my Sullivan to bring the action down to a more passable playing level. It's playing well and still no buzz... Thanks Mark!!
Banjo clinic with one of my favorite players, Dave Asti from the Hillbilly Gypsies
Jamie Lynn from the Hillbilly Gypsies and Dave's girlfriend Lisa clowning around at his banjo clinic.
Spent a lot of time at the jam tent Friday and Saturday. Met some nice foks and a couple good pickers
Dad and JJ taking a break from throwing the football around
Jeremy, the banjo player from Mama Corn. They did a cover of an old Banjo and Sullivan tune "I'm at home getting hammered while she's out getting nailed". I became an instant Mama Corn fan.
Hanging out with Dave Asti. Here's Dave, my wife Ellen and me
Dave with his girlfriend Lisa, and me
I got to check out 3 sets of the Hillbilly Gypsies!!! Can't beat that
To top it off, Ellen and I left our tent poles at home and we couldn't set up our tent when we got there. So we were looking to buy or rent another one as soon as we found out. But when we asked a gate attendent where the nearest camping store was, she told us it was too far away and was happy to let us use her's. We tried to offer her some money but she wouldn't take any.
Nice folks in Loganton
It was a great weekend. Can't wait for next year.

Great pictures! I particularly like the hula hooping in Croc's. Outdoor music festivals, family time and camping... A+. What a great Father's Day present.
