If the banjo is to become a proper parlor instrument and embraced by the middle class, it must be in the hands of women and girls, according to SS Stewart.
The Lady banjo was born. This one dates to 1894 and is in excellent collectable condition with only a few scratches and scrapes from the last 132 years. The condition really is the hallmark of this banjo.
It would suit a smaller person just fine but I'm 5 feet 8 with fairly big hands for my size and it fits me fine. If you have arthritis as I do I can say that this banjo doesn't seem to be quite as hard to play as some of my others.
It's currently strung with Nylugut as SS Stewart would have preferred but it howls with steel strings!
I purchased this not long ago from Elderly thinking my girls would think it's cool and would want to play--didn't happen. Also I am more of a Dobson guy so I'll be down for partial trades on 11 or 12 inch models.
It comes with a really cool and well made case, as well as the original key for the tuning pegs.
