After watching Victor Wooten's "Music is a Language" video on the thread on BHO. I was just sitting out on the porch this morning and was inspired to find this. A lil' rough, but nice to know it was in there somewhere. :)

A summer shower had cooled things off a bit so I sat down on the front porch to work on a version of this ol' hymn to play at church Sunday. After getting through it a time or two I decided to record it to get a rough draft down, and on the first recording (on my phone) I got a little...BIG surprise as I finished up the tune where the rest of the band would be coming in...a giant THUNDER ROLL! Couldn't help but say thanks and laugh out loud. How Great Thou Art...indeed.

Hoping Steve is OK with this...but I had an opportunity to pay tribute to him as an inspiration to me and my playing later in life, so long story shorter...I did a 22 minute opening act SOLO BANJO (w/some backing tracks) prior to a Las Vegas LEGENDS show featuring Elton John, Billy Joel and Tina Turner. The crowd was awesome, several hundred people in one of the ballrooms set up for a major music show, very cool time for me and with the exception of a few "live" trip-ups on the finger board I worked hard at holding up my end with Steve (and Tony T.) My daughter and I were having a conversation about how much she loves taking a walk through Central Park in NYC in the winter, especially when it snows (She's been living in "the city" for about 3 years now), So...I couldn't resist working up a tune for a birthday gift for her. It actually has words but I don't have a "designated singer" yet, so just the tune here on my Deering Crossfire. So much fun coming up with this tune, playing it on the electric banjo, and having my daughter just LOVE IT! Snowing in the Park! :)

Working up this original tune for my Grand daughter Mia...Just a couple of cool licks I found out on the porch one morning that starting coming together. Rough draft, but it's a tune I've done in a couple One Man Banjo shows and is coming along nicely. :)
