"Someday" Finally Comes...I Got My Gibson!

Posted by myork1 on Monday, July 6, 2009

I bought my first banjo in 1976, and a few years later as I became "purty good" I thought about someday in the future when I'd get a Gibson. MY OWN GIBSON...

Today was my "someday." Thanks to my business partner and long-time friend MC who said that we should find me one for my birthday. After a couple of weeks of searching, calling, looking, and playing; today I own a low-mileage, one-owner, 1974 RB-250. And while I love my other banjos (Deering, Alvarez, Melodier), there is certainly something special about this one...at least for me.

Thanks Larry for all the history, and for all my hang-out pals who gave me some things to look...and look out, for. And to John who said it right..."There's just something magical about your first Gibson."

I'm feelin' the magic. And it sure sounds good. Happy Birthday to me.

:)

Congrats and Happy Birthday! My wife presented me with my Gibson RB250 on my 50 th birthday, some 7 years ago. The magic still resides in that Banjo. Have many many years of enjoyment with it.

Congratulations on your 'new' banjo! That thing has to have a lot of music left in it! :-)

Mike, it was magical for me back in 1975 and I'm glad to see the magic has not worn off.

I could not think of anyone that I'd rather see have it.

Thanks guys...

Larry, I went up to see Don Bryant last night...banjo-maker/collector/luthier/friend and he RAVED about the banjo! He's totally "pre-war" and has quite a collection (some for sale guys), but kept going on about the SOUND of this one. Sure glad the way everything worked out...meant to be. I'm lovin' it and thanks so much for all the history. Hope we can get to that pickin' parlor in a few weeks.

Hey Mike,

Happy Birthday and Congratulations!  I bought my Gibson 3 years ago  -- like you, after holding off for years.  My only regret was not having bought it sooner.
