A HOT night in Shelby, NC for Earl & Friends...and LOTS of 'em showed up.
I got there early and met a couple hangoutters under the shady magnolias before making contact with Cheasapeake (Hey Don) and Steve Leatherwood (local Bluegrass icon and Doghouse BassMaster :) and got invited up to play with the OUTSIDE BAND. And when I say "warm-up" act for Earl, it didn't take long to get really warm on those concrete porches. Whew...soon we were joined by WBT Banjo Girl/Briarhoppers' Alana Flowers and we must have played for well over an hour as the long lines wrapped around the auditorium and people stood around squeezing into the shade.
The crowd inside was a lively one and appreciated the home-town boy-made-BANJO LEGEND! There was also a TV crew there doing a documentary that will play in the new Earl Scruggs museum in Shelby. All the proceeds from the show went to help fund the museum. A great night for Cleveland county and Earl Fans everywhere. Thanks Steve!
