It's actually a pretty big issue in Nebraska. The immigrant population has grown by over 30% in the last five or six years and many of the local industries are dependent on immigrant workers.

they say we are dependent on them here, but when immigration came in and took all the workers out of the Tyson food plant, it took less than a week to have it back up and going,  it is more productive now than it has been in the last 20 years.    and all the people working there now pay taxes and contribute to our economy instead of sending money to mexico every payday.     when I was working in construction in the 80's,we stayed pretty busy until the crews of illegals came through

Just one of many topics to not get me started on... They are illegal. If something is illegal then we stop it from happening again by locking the perpetrators up. In this case, send them back out of this country. It is legal to protect yourself when you feel threatened. I don't know about you, but I think they are threatening our way of life by not following our laws. (hence being illegal). When do we get to start protecting ourselves against them?

 they've been here for more years than I care to speak of, even 490 miles from the border, there are places in town that don't speak english, the whole south side of town is hispanic

There was just a story in our Sunday paper about a guy from Czechoslovakia who came here on a tourist visa and stayed after it expired in the 70's and has committed a string of crimes from sexual assault to petty theft. They've tried to deport him but he claims that the Soviet Czech Republic no longer exists and he's not a citizen of the new country. They don't know what do do with him and he's still here.

Our immigration policies are FUBAR. I think you know that I recruit physicians and executives for a biopharmaceutical company. We can't get enough qualified candidates in the US. The INS has quota systems for work visas. The quota for last year was used up in July. The new one doesn't come out until April and if you get a visa under it, you can't start until October. As a result we're losing business to overseas companies, particularly in the far east. The real shame is that these high end jobs usually bring with them a lot more positions that could put Americans to work, but they go with the senior positions.

I just had four different hires that I had to site in Europe - one in the UK, one in Paris and two in Switzerland, all because we couldn't get visas for them. They've all have support staff over there instead of here.

That's because all the olds ones became doctors when you literally went to school to become a doctor. Now you have to take a whole bunch of different classes that have nothing to do with the profession. It is a waste of time and money that a lot of people don't have.

Seriously, Alaina, Baja California (literally, "Lower California") was named by Spanish explorers long before there was a United States. (Come to think of it, so was upper California.)   So an American demanding that B.C. change their license plates makes about as much sense as a Mexican demanding name changes for Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Montana, Nevada, and New Mexico.

 Glad  you asked!   Baja California (properly Baja California Sur) is one of the 31 states  of Mexico, like Yucatán, Tabasco, and Chihuahua. 

Mexican license plates bear the name of the state of issue, just like Ameican plates..  (Some Amerriican states include county of issue..)
