What’s a guy have to do to get some food around here??? We been busting hump around here getting ready for The whole slammer gang coming home next week and decided to go out for dinner last night as we were too tired to cook. Drove about 17 miles to our favorite fish fry pub as they serve it on Friday and Saturday. Got there and they were closed for the 4th festivities. Damn, I was jonesing for a fish fry, great salad bar and a cold PBR. Went to a well known bar on the bay with outdoor seating on the lake that has great burgers and wood fired pizza. So much for plan B………closed!!!
Alright, as long as we’re spiffed up, off to the best restaurant in town and a pricey one at that. Well, by this time, I could’ve eaten the arse out of a skunk. Got there at 7:30 and the sign on the door stated they were closing at 8:00 for the festivities .
Are you kidding me ??? Now after driving around for an hour and not getting anywhere, we ended up 2 blocks from home at a hotel on the bay with a very pricey restaurant that I usually don’t care for. We had a BOGO coupon for volunteering at the 1/2 marathon they sponsor so it didn’t break the bank. I don’t know if I was just famished, but we had a great meal. I had Thai red curry shrimp and scallops on lemongrass rice, and Mrs. slammer had seared Ahi tuna dinner salad. Both excellent.
Today was more hump busting but had enough steam left to do baby backs on the weber with some veggie kabobs and fresh picked strawberry salad. WOW !!!
Mrs. Slammer is fixin fresh macerated strawberries and vanilla ice cream for late dessert!!! Yes please!!!
Slammer!!!
I had to look and now wish I were blind !!! I can remember coming home from school and I could smell em coming up the driveway. Yup, mom made stuffed green peppers for dinner. I’d damn near be crying!!! She thought she was doing me a favor by making some meatballs with the same meat and rice mixture without the green pepper, but baked them in the same pan as the stuffed peppers. It’s a flavor ya just can’t hide !!! It’s my Kryptonite !!! Just had me some grilled yellow and red peppers last night and they were delicious, but you’ll never see a green pepper touch and ruin my weber !!!
Gotta say it…………those are some dandies Fig!!! Glad you enjoy them, and it’s one of the very few times I’m glad I’m not invited fer dinner!!!
Slammer!!!
Too hot to grill, so Bob made Baby Back Ribs in the oven. He's never baked them before, but he dry-rubbed them with something good, and did them low and slow. They came out perfect! Served with instant mashed taters (I know, lol), but it was a wonderful birthday feast! Sorry no pictures.
Al, I want to come to your house to eat! Actually, I could just travel around and dine with everyone! I so enjoy this forum!
One of the car club guys was celebrating Independence Day with two large smokers setup in his driveway doing pork butts & chicken legs with a Cajun rub & barrel chips courtesy of Jack Daniel's. My contribution was Cajun red beans & rice, sans the rice, 'cause I figured this PNW crowd was more the baked beans & potato salad type. There was no shortage of food. Nonetheless, the red beans were well received. Dennis' man cave/garage was decorated in rustic bar, complete with ceiling fan & three beer tappers, a Pillsner, Porter, & Oatmeal Stout. Laissez les bons temp rouler.

YUM!
Last night I skillet-heated through some garden rosemary sprinkled smoked pork chops. Heated up a mix of canned green beans with canned mushrooms flavored with garden tarragon.
And, made my first batch of "Butter Swim" Biscuits. I was skeptical, but they turned out good in flavor, texture, and appearance.
