This li'l varment over here on the left is a Cacomistle otherwise known as a Ring-Tailed Cat. He was caught breaking into the pantry at Hummingbird music camp down the road from me a ways and they were gonna shoot him. My daughter in law who works there had me come rescue him and we turned him loose on my deck and one of my sons took about 20 or so photos of him. He didn't seem particularly afraid of us and hung around until dark before leaving. He is about 14 inches long and his tail is maybe a little longer.
They are nocternal as you can figger out from those great big eyebubs. They are so cute you want to pick him up and cuddle him some but you'd be wise not to. They sound sort of like a bird when they hollar and spend most of their time up in trees. Absolutely darlin' little guys.

Listened to my grandad play until i couldn't stand it any more. Learned from him, Steve Brainard in oklahoma, Erik Darling, Doug Dillard, John Hartford and lots of others. Played myself out of college 2 or 3 times.changed major to music in 1958. Taught classical guitar at 2 - 3 colleges. Had a trio with mason williams and bax taylor in late 50's early 60's.got hitched in 62. Quit the road when i did that but still did studio work, played with a symphony in texas once, taught lots of folks to play banjo and guitar, played around with various folks.developed a little arthritis but i can still play ok clawhammer.
