I don't want this post to turn political but this is my observation...
Only recently did your mint stop making 1c coins. Our 1 & 2c coins were discontinued in 1988 and our 5c coin in 2006. When we changed over to decimal currency in July 1967 we had $1 & $2 bank notes. These were discontinued in 1991and replaced with coin. All were made of paper. Polymer (plastic ) notes were introduced in 1990 for durability.
Cheques (you call them 'checks') were discontinued in 2023. Salaries and wages are paid by electronic form. The 'pay packet' containing notes and coins were long ago discontinued.
Another strange thing is when every a motorist is stopped by police there, they have to produce proof of insurance and registration which need to be carried in the veeHICle (sorry).
Here in NZ it is not mandatory to have motor vehicle insurance but is strongly encouraged. And it doesn't have to be carried in the vehicle. Here we have registration stickers mounted inside the front windscreen.
Our driver's licence's, while an approved government form of ID, doesn't carry a residential address. In fact, it is not required here for people to carry ID. If someone does want an NZ ID and don't have a driving licence, they can apply for one.

I’ve got my mug shot on my driver’s licence (license in USA) , a pink insurance card along with a registration form in my glove box,, and this is in Canada. The cops can tell by my licence plate whether my registration is up to date (yearly). I might move to New Zealand…..
