Tonight was sloppy Joe night. My wife’s version that she enjoyed when you get is different than the version I grew with and enjoyed. I cooked, so made them my way…the same way as dozens of the recipes online. I also made a “southern” style creamy coleslaw. (Though when I put it away I splashed some more vinegar in it.) some pickles and chips to round it out. Brad
Don’t get on my Arse, but Sloppy Joes have been my “favorite” all my life , although we called them Barbecues sandwiches growing up. We ate Barbecues , and schools served sloppy Joes. Ours were made with brown sugar, onion, vinegar , and ketchup and a little dry mustard. Before serving Mom always dropped a big pad of butter in the pan, turned up the heat high until they started burning to the bottom of the pan and smoking up the house!!!
Windows open and the fan going, but that was and still is the key to my favorite sammich.
My birthday meal since I was 7 years old is BBQ sammiches, chips and dip, and green jello, followed by German Chocolate cake for dessert!!! Happy Birthday to me!!!
Celery and Green Pepper DO NOT BELONG in sloppy joes!!!!!!!
Slammer!!!
Tonight was Chicken Pad Thai with a side of steamed purple cauliflower. Bought the most beautiful purple cauliflower from the Amish family that sets up a stand down the road. Best damn cauliflower I’ve ever had and their onions are huge and mild as can be. Didn’t have flat rice noodles so had to improvise with rice pho noodles. I actually liked it better than the flat ones like fettuccini!!!
Slammer!!!
Yea, when I made the sloppy joes, all I was doing is making old fashion simple bbq sauce. About like Slammer’s mother-without the burnt butter.
Instead of green peppers I chopped up some green (No heat) jalapeños that won’t quit growing in our garden. That turned out to be yummy!
So if you have excess bbq sauce around, just use it. Maybe wet it with more apple cider vinegar to get more simmer time on the mix. Brad
We were just joking about Jello salad 2 weeks ago at my Dads funeral. He loved jello salads !!! Who the hell ever came up with that idea. I remember at family reunions there would always be a few and the center hole was filled with mayonnaise. What kind of sick sadistic individual came up with that idea??? I actually know someone that has a jello mold collection with some pretty interesting molds.
Slammer!!!

Yum!
Sunday night: bacon wrapped filets on the grill. Home grown tomato cups: but filled with riced cauliflower (because I had it) mixed with cooked down tomato pulp and seasonings & herbs, baked on the grill, and corn microwaved at 4 min per ear in the husk. Along with leftover baguette and on the grill salt crusted little potatoes. Paired with a Jessup red wine blend. Brad

My MIL often served jello as a dinner salad. Somewhere along the way she did not bother with salad stuff in the jello anymore. Just simply put a square of plain red or green wiggly jello on a salad plate. Growing up, with thought it more a dessert. brad

I started making Jell-O Molds as a Boy Scout earning his Cooking Merit Badge. My mom had the molds and it was something everyone liked. All you had to do was pick stuff that worked with the flavor of the Jell-O. Lime got pineapple, Maraschino Cherries, orange segments. Cherry got shredded carrots, fresh cherry halves, peach chunks. Blackberry got chopped walnuts, Cherry halves and diced apples.
They were very popular at the Calvary Lutheran Church Potlucks and fundraisers, my own family functions and for my friends.
And no mayo on top. My Aunt Burma tried that at a family BBQ once. It was not well received.

My mom would stir in a can of fruit cocktail...after giving my brother the one little cherry half in the can. But he did not like the jello. Brad

Well, that ain't no Swanson CPP, for sure. Enjoy! Brad
Chicken Spaghetti.
Pasta, chicken thigh meat, cream cheese, mozzarella, shredded cheddar and a healthy dose of Rotel. Sounds like chicken and noodles w/Chiles to me, sans mushrooms, but I'm not making it so I'm good to go.
I've been assigned garlic bread. So I'm making Cheesy Garlic Bread on-site. Always a hit.
