When I went out to be gainfully employed as an adult, the town [Swanee] didn't have a men's team, so another guy from the boarding house and I decided to form one... found two guys to act as president and manager and they took over.   We had a say in sweaters, but not the cresting ... I favoured "Imperials" in cursive (?) across the front, with "Esso" shoulder patches, but apparently the sponsor his own idea.   [We were so bad the first year, the players wore bags on our heads   ..... spare the fans the bother.  But, but, but, in year two we won a couple of games, and in year three finished the regular season in third and won the playoffs!!]

Did Dave Binder go on to work for Imperial Oil/Esso/EXXON Mobil ?
I’m guessing he would have been the clown at the annual office Christmas party…

Now you're expecting me to work??!??!      I'm guessing there must be others than the one who was the Esso bulk agent in Swanee River??   I think he appeared in our dressing room before our first game .... probably got an appreciative round* of applause, but I don't recall any pictures being taken, but our pres. was also the editor of the yocal weekly, so I'm probably wrong.  I have no recollection of what our generous sponsor looked like.

As a continuation of all things Bruins,, I’m often amazed at the poise and grace many of these max pugnacious players possessed. Listening to Wensink you’d think he had been a bank manager all his life.

Maybe we need a word for pretend bank managers??   Is what ^^ said about the team and/or playing style pretty much the same thing DC/MD* says?   ..... only with less bluster?

“Shrewd” is a moving target ,, “lunch pail gang” fits into DC’s game plan,, & career plan for later when he puts out all those rock’m’sock’m videos & makes a fortune. (no fancy-pants, college-boy, pinko la-Dee-da panty-waist hockey)

I might have posted this before..... one of Mark Howe's tales: "We had a guy here in Philly named Miroslav Dvorak, from Czechoslovakia and he was a pretty funny guy. I figure balance is good.... some panty-waist [dipsy-doodle?] and some rock 'em sock 'em [actually for me it's more a case of players taking "corrective measures" both when some players start skating around like they own the place and also when the officiating is sub-par].

I guess the forethought/planning you allude to would qualify as shrewd  [i.e. no dummy].

OTGAO rather than dipsy-doodle. MD/DC never liked the Pat Kane types cuz as a player they made him look foolish… which leads to the question, Does our past experiences colour our present -day attitudes and values? Can one truly be objective? Is DC a moron or a clever entrepreneur?  ..... etc.

I'm no psychologist*. but I figure each of us is the sum total of his/her past ... or something like that.   Maybe not truly objective, but not necessarily equal in how close to, or how far off, the mark each is.   DC probably falls somewhere between moron and clever entrepreneur... fwiw, my possibly-not-quite-truly objective assessment is that it's probably a bit closer to the latter.

Moron being a rather strong word, I’d have to agree with your psychological assessment of the man. There’s another clip of Stan Jonathan saying the penalty box felt like home ( he laughs) , besides, he continued, it gave him a rest from DC’s constant yelling behind the bench (he laughs even louder…)

I find it kinda interesting (?) how, when a coach is "getting into it" with an official, the players are not allowed (?) to display any emotion/interest, or even let on they know it's happening, even though it's right beside them. I'm just glad I can do a wee bit of lip-reading.

Methinks players don’t want to get on the ref’s bad side on the bench,, are there still “bench minors” handed out nowadays?

Meanwhile, back in the East Kootenays, the Kimberley Dynamiters won this weekend’s tourney. My grandkid Ollie is team captain, (the players voted him in,,, nuttin' to do with his Dad being,, ahem,, , coach ) him laying down in the middle with sunglasses,, SIL Kelly, the coach, on the left.  My SIL’s family say “Littlechilds” is not a pretendian name, but I think they’re calling Ollie "Chief” already….
