If they were ten years younger they could be models in "seniors" (?) ads/magazines ... nice teeth and ear-to-ear smiles.

Eddie didn’t have much schooling, so he’d be unaware of words like “dependability”

Several years back I read his biography/autobiography/??  ... he came a cross as being plenty smart/astute ... probably even dependable.   My mom left school after grade 7 [or 8?] ... I'll guarantee that she was aware of words like dependability .... and even cohesiveness  [she read 'way more than I do].

I chatted with Eddie for a minute at St. Lawrence Market in TO where I was busking, about 20 years ago. He seemed like a bit of a lost soul walking around town for something to do. He was a hustler,, used to sell Christmas trees on a corner lot for extra $$,, always wore a Biltmore hat from his Guelph junior A connections. Then tried to start coffee shops like his pal Tim Horton.

I guess to the extent that my heart's in it, it's with Rangers, but the Phillies are looking pretty impressive.

Bobby & Dennis were St. Catharines juniors, as u know,, but Dennis was a Black Hawk , not a TeePee. Neither won a Memorial Cup….

Does it make sense that I have more affinity/respect/?? for hockey players that played baseball/fastball in the off-season than those that went golfing?

I remember Emile Francis in a TV interview saying about the Rangers forwards who were scuffling, , “Those guys couldn’t shoot the puck into the ocean!”

It'll be interesting to learn the details.  I dunno just what the rest of the teams in the "Big Six Hockey League" think ... unless of course it was a league initiative [...wasn't the WHA in on the Jets signing Hull?].  Hmmm ... I can agree with Francis. The one time I saw them live at the Forum, the Habs whipped them 11-1.

The Habs had a baseball team (not sure if it was softball or hardball). It occasionally made the news in the off-season (hockey season, that is). With playoffs stretching into June, I guess that's just a fond memory now.

Habs were the most injury prone team last year. Looks like they're picking up where they left off.

I think I can name more players than "lines" per se, but I think I see The Kraut Line in there somewhere  ??? .... #s 17, 14, 15.

I'll concede that sports isn't as important (?) as it once was, but I trust my poor showing won't disqualify me from thread participation.  

Edit:  Iffin you'd showed The Production Line and The French Connection, I'd a made a better showing!!!  Is Wharram,  Mikita, Mohns (?)  the Scooter Line??    [ << (?) = wasn't Mohns a defenseman?]

Ah, Owen, maybe review your BeeHive corn syrup cards, it might jog yer mem’ry.
Yup, that’s the Scooter Line ,, Mohns was a defenseman turned left winger due to his speed and successful corner battles to feed Stanislaus the puck.
Kraut Line , yes, although culture cancellation might come into play (!) here.

French Connection doesn't/didn't offend the Quebec Liberation Front , perhaps,, but the Production Line offends church ladies' sensibiliteis with its sexual undertones....

Edit #2: Fwiw, last week a friend emailed me a a [pop quiz??] pic of 6 players from an early ['51? '52?] All-Star game ...  I nailed 6 of 6 [though I had to enlarge the pic in order to identify Red Kelly]  .... even impressed myself.  

I'll defer to your assessment of Mohns' speed, but pretty any ol' defenseman can make the transition to winger .... but the reverse is a bit more problematic, IMNSHumbleO .... I attribute it to "smarts."  

And Edit #3: The Uke Line ??   Buyck and a couple of guys whose names are in the  "brain cramp" at the moment.

..... hey, wait a minute, I think you're referring to my very last game at UniGoo where Terry Brown [who wrecked my shoulder at practice the previous year and a former team mate of John (Cheech) Garret growing up in Trenton (I'm not through name-dropping, don't worry) ) pressed upon me to play defence, knowing I'm no whiz at backwards skating. My smarts were in effect, but my legs got tangled up and the twine at our end bulged , , yes, I've related this sorry tale before. 

O'Brien??  How'd he do as a winger?  Probably plenty smart* to play on the wing, but questionable/borderline as a defenseman.  

Anyhoo, it's a general observation**... occasional anomalies to be expected.

* = Maybe it's the coaches [i.e. those who didn't put him on the wing] whose smarts should be questioned. 

** = I wonder which position I mostly played?!?!?!    [But .... I did have reasonable success on the occasions I did play wing.   However, I do think it a valid observation ... maybe something to do with defensemen having a better overall pic of what's transpiring because more of the play is in front of them??  Just thinking out loud.... .]

Edit: Do I see Murray Hall and Red Hay, and ______ ?  ...Can't recall what the line was called.  

Methinks defending takes more thought than attacking,, defencemen size up all five attackers ,, attackers usually only have to deal with 2 or 3 opponents.
