At least they booted out the big ego guys Burkie and Hextall. Then again, show me a GM without a big ego,,,, maybe Ken Holland.

I have a hard time imagining that anyone without a big ego would seek - or succeed - in the job.

That one certainly goes into my fascinating-but-useless stats file. Bruins average is gonna be down this year given retirements of Bergeron and Krecji... and the Pens will still be old, thanks in no small part to Crosby.
Who, by the day, remains a marvel and is due all the kudos received over his career.
As to the old boy's club: yes, it does seem that there are some changes afoot. Kyle Dubas, formerly of Toronto and now Pittsburgh, is an example - never played (at least high level) and instead came up after having studied sports management. But he's a rarity and it seems the changes are very, very slow ones. Still an awful lot of retired players in senior team management, which is an obvious double-edged sword.
Meantime, things start getting interesting in about two to three weeks with camps and exhibition games. Really looking forward to the season - especially the B's opener v. Chicago, where we'll get to see how the Bruins look without their former 1-2 pivots and have our first chance to see Bedard in an actual NHL game.

In fairness, NHL players are still underpaid compared to the other three Major North American Sports. Or, for that matter, that weird game where they kick a ball around. and flop and howl like a wounded puppy when someone comes within five feet of them.
Or, for that matter, successful politicians.

He was that good,, I saw him with Oshawa in his second year, back in the old Garden City Arena against our St. Catharines Blackhawks. He controlled the game then already.

Let us return to the exalted and delightful game: hockey. Training camps are starting. NHL exhibition games start this weekend. And the season itself starts in about three weeks.
And meantime, there's been all kinds of sturm and drang centering upon the Columbus Blue Jackets and their suddenly defenestrated head coach Mike Babcock, who didn't even have time to unpack. Seems some of the younger players didn't like some of his team-building approaches, notably asking to see photos on their phones and sharing them with the rest of the team.
I can see why some folks would consider this an invasion of privacy. I'm also of the mind that "wtf - this is HOCKEY. You're getting you knickers in a twist over THIS?"

I think Babs’ reputation preceded him, after the Marner debacle in TO. Retired players voiced their opinions about the guy, and they weren’t very complimentary. And you’ve got “Spittin’ Chiclets” on his case too. John Davidson & co. probably didn’t see this coming.
