Note the Wings' "away" sweaters, the original ones before they put the "home" sleeves on them (whose dumb idea was that?). I wish they'd go back to the originals.
BTW, when I ran the floor hockey leagues in my school, the prize was "The Stanley Can", an Allen's apple juice tin done up with magic marker. We used plastic sticks and pucks. The original sticks had curved blades. They were made by Cosom, but the kids called the game "Cosmo hockey". We got a chuckle out of that. The girls named their teams differently. If I remember correctly, one team was called the Muffins.

^^ well, that's the best explanation so far. ![]()
My limited ability in engineering can envision that by having all of one team operate from a single belt in a loop?? But then they'd all rotate in the same direction??
Besides being like pylons, it could well have been the impetus for synchronized skating. https://www.google.com/search?q=synchronized+skating&rlz=1C1CHZN_enCA1055CA1055&oq=synchronized+skating&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i512j0i67i650j0i512l7.1483875056j1j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Maybe DC/MD follows this thread and will jump in with his take on the link between [la-de-da] hockey and synchronized skating???
Edit: The pic I posted doesn't have a slot for the opposing center to have a break-away on the goalie. Ours did; in fact all players could "skate" within their slots.

Back in the early or mid-Sixties, my parents brought home a game a lot like this. You had to take floor wax and polish the surface before it was ready for play. Mom and Dad were avid curlers, usually belonging to two clubs at once. The game was a novelty, but the novelty soon wore off.
I threw one curling rock in my life,, at the U of G athletic building. Just for the hey of it , then got yelled at to beat it by the Mary of the curling hair (athletic director). Being a sub on the hockey team got you no respect….

My grandfather had one of those. The instructions including rubbing the playing surface with waxed paper before play.
I wonder if the Babe subsequently gave an interesting (?) account of playing while "out of it" a la Doc Ellis: https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/06/12/dock-ellis-acid-no-hitter-pittsburgh-pirates-anniversary
... there's some stuff in this link https://thestarphoenix.com/opinion/columnists/murray-mandryk-gored-oxen/wcm/1dc96fe9-087b-4482-a5cd-d363eba66c64?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR2yEjxREBXnGd6UPKlrSkmlCt18ugPXDBqjdsvnihn6X1KCvYd_Ej7_hb0#Echobox=1689946849 that I wasn't aware of re. our man Tommy, though it hasn't mucho changed my opinion of him.
However I reewee, reewee like the bit about the 2004 CBC "Greatest Canadian Contest," especially the important info that: "(By the way, Macdonald finished eighth in CBC’s greatest Canadian contest, ahead of Alexander Graham Bell and Wayne Gretzky, but behind Lester B. Pearson and Don Cherry.)" ![]()

Lotta maroons out there.
Why not??
'Way back, when I was young(er) and foolish(er), a dude in our smallish town got "promoted" ... went from barber to provincial mental health worker [without stopping at "Go"]. One nite in the bar a pretty sharp nurse observed, with perfect timing and dead-pan expression: "If Buck ________ is a mental health worker, I'm a %*&$&@' brain surgeon."

Bergeron is by all accounts a thoroughly decent person both on and off the ice. As to that latter... given that the Spoked B may only barely eke their way into the playoffs this year, I'll keep what we got.**
**Although I'd be willing to cough up one of our two wonderful goalies in exchange for a first-line pivot. Which I suspect is what's going to happen once Swayman's arbitration is complete.

Most Ukrainian thing today! Ryan Craig, assistant coach of the Vegas Knights eating varenyky from the Stanley Cup in Brandon, Manitoba.

I guess "time will tell*" whether it becomes a tradition.
* = and in the meantime, "we'll play it by ear." [A sorta inside joke between me and my wife .... and now a few outhangers .... shamelessly picked up from a principal at one of the fly-in reserves.
But I noticed it looks like a plastic fork... wondered whether the keepers of the cup ixnayed anything metal??
Edit: Anyhoo, with an important roller derby tournament coming up, does 'ockey really matter?

I hadn't heard of this before [it appeared on my Facebook page today from a site called Alex Ovechkin Fanpage]. I expect DC would give it a
.
"March 21, 1972: Good old time hockey in the EHL (New Haven vs Syracuse). Goalie Jim Armstrong (New Haven) straddling referee Gordie Heagle while choking him. The referee had punched a player in the face.
The evening began with a bomb threat that was called in to the arena, then a player got his skates stolen, and someone clipped the phone lines for local radio broadcaster.
Can anyone say Slap Shot? (which by the way was filmed in this arena)"

Apparently this one's worse*:

I don't keep myself informed, but a snippet from ^^ says: "...the LNAH is not known for its skill level. Its teams employ many enforcers and has a rather infamous reputation for on-ice antics, primarily fisticuffs. The LNAH has a reputation as the world's toughest hockey league; a New York Times article stated that the league averaged 3.2 fights a game during the 2010–11 season, compared with 0.6 fights in the National Hockey League.[4]"
* = depending on one's personal preference / point of view, I suppose. ![]()

What are the odds?!?!!? Two guys checking each other and BOTH simultaneously get their sticks between the other guy's legs?!?!? I figure it's gotta be almost incalculable. [This pic from Alex Ovechkin Fanpage > my Facebook > BHO.]
