'Way back I saw an Alberta U16 fastball team that "rotated" three pitchers.  IF/when a batter got a hit, the next pitcher came in [nobody had thought of the three batter rule, and the "replacements" were playing other positions, so no significant time was wasted].  Apparently that was their system throughout  the season... took them to silver medals in the Western Canadian Tournament.

Switch goalies every goal?? Why not?? [Other than it ^^ ended with silver instead of ????]

That said.... Go Habs, Go!  ... Go Yankees, Go!!  wink

Is this still a Hockey Topic? Nobody mentions the MakebeLeafs 1"st playoff win in 19 years! 2004-05!

I know some really happy guys that know how to deal with Major let downs!

Good grief Chuck!  I don't care about hockey in MLB season! I'm a fairweather fan that only cheers for winning teams ! When it gets down to no Canadian teams I switch over to baseball! smiley

Well, holy crapoli, the Bears are back in hibernation! Too bad, 'cause that makes it that much easier for the Leafs to advance.

Who'd'a thunk it?

Ain't karma strange?

It is a gloomy day on Cape Cod, both figuratively and literally.

Guess I'm backing Seattle now... some serious Boston ties there...

Sounds like he's coming back.

Skip: "Are the Leafs on their way to re-upping their meme status...?"

I guess for now, we'll just have to make do with others.   I suppose this one [appeared on my Fb page yesterday] isn't entirely fair or warranted, but nevertheless I find it kinda funny.

May be an image of 1 person and text that says 'Marchand enjoying the off-season TRE HOCKEY'

Of all the Marchand memes, this one is by far my favorite. As noted previously, he'll never win the Lady Byng trophy, but he really toned down the instigator schtick this year and concentrated on playing a solid game. Multiple times this year, he skated away from provocations that previously would have landed him in the box (at minimum).

In a way, I kinda miss the old Marchand. But he does seem to be gaining wisdom with age.

This nugget appeared on my FB, ostensibly from Hockey Beast: "In the 2002 Olympics, Theo Fleury, Brendan Shanahan and Joe Nieuwendyk played on line together on Team Canada. They had 1,500 career NHL goals among them, along with five Stanley Cup rings. They were the teams FOURTH line." ??

I remember when the “4th line” was a guy sitting at the end of the bench, usually a Reggie Fleming type….

... interesting insight (??) from Jody Shelley  >> Hockey Beast >> Facebook >> BHO:

J.S.: "I just remembered the feeling every time I scored, I was like, 'This is gonna be the year I get 10.' I always thought, 'This is the year I get more.' My favorite was the year (2003-04) I started with two in one game and I was like, 'Here we go.' I remember going to bed that night thinking, 'I could get a dozen goals this year.' I remember I ended up finishing the season at three."

The only thing I don't like about the Edmonton/Vegas series is the time of puck drop. I just can't stay up that late.

This is a slugfest, with both teams solidly beating the other in alternating games. Fascinating to see how Vegas can shut down the two best forwards in the game every other matchup, then get their clocks cleaned on the next night. And Darnell Nurse has brought some real grit to Edmonton's defense, which I thought was lacking before this series. I'm guessing this one becomes Edmonton's in 7.

And kudos to the Leafs for pulling one out last night. Seems to me they're only forestalling the inevitable, but it was a good effort. That Woll kid turns out to be pretty good!

Hockey players don't wear jerseys. They wear sweaters.

The 'Canes have played in "retro" uniforms. And, of course, there are always fans who will buy the merch.

A Canadian-deficient Stanley Cup again this year (other than about half the players),, so I might hazard a guess that “jersey” and “locker room” instead of “sweater” and “dressing room” are the probable nomenclature.

I retired last night after the second period of the Panthers/'Canes game. Glad I didn't try to stick it out. Winning goal scored by Tkachuk with 17 seconds left in the FOURTH overtime. I wonder if any of those boys have tumbled out of bed yet.

I came home in time to watch the third & fourth OT periods. The goalies were superb. Looked like about half of the ‘Canes fans stayed to the bitter end.

Good on them. Most Bruins fans would've stuck it out, in part calculating that that their amortized seat/minute and flat-fee parking cost ratio was becoming a better deal with each successive overtime minute.

But in the South, that's way past anyone's beddie-bye time.
